How old is your job?

Postby DoomYoshi on Tue Dec 06, 2016 2:48 pm

My job didn't even really exist before the industrial revolution. So, we can say mine is about 200 years old at most. I am curious to see how you date your jobs. I imagine that our jobs in many cases are older than we thought about.

Good guesses, but not close yet.
In the modern western era, probably closer to 1666 AD

No. Construction inspection. I based the dates off the following info:

Antiquity
Building codes have a long history. The earliest known written building code is included in the Code of Hammurabi, which dates from circa 1772 BC

Modern era
After the Great Fire of London in 1666, which had been able to spread so rapidly through the densely built timber housing of the city, the Rebuilding of London Act was passed in the same year as the first significant building regulation

Based off this, implementing building codes you can surmise that after such codes were established, somebody needed to begin inspecting them to meet the code.

I'm trying to figure out what job you're referring to, but I just can't find it. Assuming of course that you're not a professional prophet.

Winemaker... Guess that was kind of a riddle. I use grapes, he used water.

(though I did predict Trump would win the presidency in our clan forum back in Nov 2015, I i guess i am a prophet ;) )

Did they have retirement 7000 years ago? I would've thought you just kinda keeled over doing whatever your occupation was, and that was that. It's nice to see that the ancients took care of their elderly, too.
