Rey has to be luke's daughter, patches seems to be the biggest star wars nerd here: convince me she isn't luke's daughter. I admit that would be a way too easy plot, but for me that is a very minor plot of the new trilogy and it will be revealed pretty fast after her jedi training that the master is the father.
I'm not the biggest Star Wars nerd. I have no idea who Rey's father or mother are. Could be anyone I suppose. Does force dependence depend on how much force ability the parents have?
I'm pretty sure every life form has some amount of force ability, even if it's very subtle. Rey's parents don't necessarily have to be some sort of powerful force users. They could have just been some average schmucks that simply abandoned their daughter or just died when she was really young.
As for her being Luke's daughter, it's possible of course, but the Jedi aren't supposed to have children, raise families and such. We saw what happens with Annakin when Jedi's disregard that "rule". Families make Jedi more vulnerable. So I dunno.
I think the more interesting plot points that might be explored for instance is Luke's journey to the dark side as it was kinda originally intended before Lucas decided he wanted to get rich off of merchandising rather than explore more complex character issues.
It is possible that by the end of this new trilogy Luke goes full dark side and Rey has to put him down. Now that might be some fun times and lead to some great WTF moments. Star Wars fanboys heads might assplode.
