MR. Nate, sounds like the logic that got it illegalised in the first place.
If its legal then the dealers are left out of the loop, your scenario is one that the government created(absurd that it is)

If there is no after, and this is all that we have(life) then we have created a nightmare of a world for ourselves, for if this is all we will ever know, then its about time we started to make this a place worth living in, not just surviving through.

First thing I would elect to get rid of is passports, let us go where we wish!

I'm not very interested in the legelisation of drugs argument. My point is that very few things truly "don't hurt others" because even buying something a Walmart supports an organization that has a bad human rights history. So if you're really interested in not hurting other people, you need to pay a LOT of attention, and be VERY careful what you do.

ah understandable,

However I think in order to prevent that we need to completely rebuild our system.(church, state, and media) I highly doubt that anyones hands are clean anymore. After all, our money is dirty.

Nate I don't oppose the "supporting a dealer is bad" thing but, as you started to point out you'll need to go to a commune and avoid all fiscal transactions to put a stop to it. That might be a good idea but pretty much imposible for most people.

No, don't do it. If you dig a hole you might harm the underground insects. To become a budha you must avoid harming all life.

I'm arguing against "not hurting other people" as the a meaning of life, that's all. I certainly don't condone burying oneself alive.

Personally, I would go with the Westminster Shorter Catechism's answer, but I'm pretty sure not many here support me.

And, as trite as that answer is, it's also serious. Life is a self-replicating phenomenon. Obviously, the better it is at self-replicating, the longer it is going to last. Therefore, after only a few hundred generations, the only goal of any surviving strain of creature is to ensure that its strain does not die out. Any strain for which this is not the goal will die.

I'd have to disagree with you there. I think that as long as it doesn't hurt others, then go ahead.

That's pretty broad. A lot of things that "Don't hurt others" have negative results that end up hurting others. For instance, smoking pot in your basement by yourself may not hurt others, except the money you spent to buy it went to support a dealer somewhere, and it allowed him to give crack to a 14 for free (to get them hooked) and you contributed to the man who ruined their life.

Did that hurt someone?

Giving money to dope pleadlers is the same to me as walking up to same 14-year old and shooting them in the head. Or smothering them in their sleep with their own pillow. Those who would argue the reverse are sick in the head.

Anybody who didn't agree with that would have to lack all powers of logical reasoning and analysis, and would probably be a reactionary sensationalist conservative who wasn't thinking about what he was typing.

I second that notion. Life must have a point, and some intrisic meaning. If our collective purpose is solely to continue the bio-chemical chain-reaction of life, then why bother pretending that we have minds? If that is the purpose, then our thoughts, memories and emotions, the things that make us who and what we really are, are nothing more than electro-chemical impulses being produced, traveling through and then being stored in eight pounds of cold, soggy tissue in reaction to stimuli. Honestly, what meaning is there in that? [/i]

"nothing more than"?

Speaking as an atheist here, obviously:
Your thoughts, memories and emotions - your consciousness - is the most wonderful, mysterious, complex phenomenon in existence, as far as we know. No scientist or philospoher has really explained it yet. And yes, so far it appears to be the product of electro-chemical impulses firing through grey matter. Your question sounds fearful (i know you didn't mean it that way but it got me thinking). It can't be the truth because, then what? How about imbuing your own life with your own meaning? Make it nothing but reproduction if you want, and you'll have a great time, but if you want to change things or help people then do that instead.

This episode reminds me of "Reefer madness"
Instead of the kid being so high he shoots himself, hes running around killing 14 year olds after smoking pot  Thank god we have the government to save us from this "Mexican killer weed" Can we bring out the quote comparing Cannabis to Frankenstein?
