Even California rolls?

Classic Western approach to foreign food - bastardize something from abroad so that people can eat exotic without having to really eat exotic.

Do you know how difficult it can be to come by some exotic ingredients? Unless you live close to/in a major city, you're fucked.

Is that why half the Chinese takeouts in London sell prawn crackers (which are an Indonesian food)?

One thing is constant anyway. Wherever I've gone, kebab always appeared to be Turkish, except in Greece. Those guys hate Turkey more than the nazi's hated jews.

Fun fact- the worst Chinese food I ever had was in Beijing airport. To be fair, the second worst was in New York.

well in france you equally call it a greek or a turkish.

the problem is that when you order, you need to be careful between "i want a greek with fries" or "i want a turkish with fries"

Can't remember, it was a connection on the way to Thailand. Lot's of nice artwork, a connection guy who literally fell asleep on the job, and amazingly lax security. Does that narrow things down?

lol. Well lax security narrows it down to China.

But yeah that was probably 1 or 2. They're the crap ones. What you ate was probably the Chinese food equivalent of a Travelodge fry up.

Trademarks only apply to the particular business they are trademarked to.

Example:

Arrow shirts have trademarked "Arrow"
Arrow electronics have trademarked "Arrow"
Arrow exterminating has trademarked "Arrow"

Apple Records have trademarked "Apple"
Apple Computer has trademarked "Apple"

(There was a problem when Apple Computer was pushing music, since they moved into the other business.)

Since I am confident that the music group does not use female models dressed in tails, there is no conflict.

Well, New York is a case with a "fast food" mentality. The same is true for Italian food. Yes, there are exceptions; there are a lot of exceptions, but they are all drowned out by all the generic ones.

It's the same for sushi. Most sushi places in New York are actually run by Chinese-American places and, apparently, to those from Japan, it shows.

You'd be surprised just how far wrong someone can go with something as simple as sushi.

Same goes for Western food to be fair. You wouldn't think a sandwich was something that it would be difficult to make authentically, but the sandwiches sold at Auspicious Phoenix (bakery chain in Beijing) are almost unrecognizable as sandwiches.

It is even more interesting in that you really can't get an "original" sandwich in the United States, as the earl is said to have ordered mutton between the bread and lamb/mutton is one of the few meats you won't find at the deli counter.

The Japanese place I went to last night had a Chinese-speaking chef and was playing Chinese music over the sound system.

It's not that common to find in the UK either, but the Earl was ordering leftovers from a roast, which is. If I remember the story correctly. Lamb is weirdly expensive in the US, and I've never encountered mutton there that I can recall.

But that's probably a cultural thing.

It's not that bad, as a leftover cut from a decently done slow roast. But yeah, it'd be crap from a deli.

Proper English spices like mustard (English, of course, not the French or American stuff for wusses), rosemary maybe, thinly sliced? Yum

Bwargh. I prefer the good old sandwich with some cheese, salad, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes and mayo :)
Also a Brie and honey sandwich is pretty good.

Lol, hell no. These are just the traditional sandwiches we eat in Belgium. You can find 'm in most frieturen/frieteries/Belgian fries restaurant.
Some people eat 'm with ham, but I don't like ham.
