George was an old-fashioned cynic who believed that there is no solution -- we are fucked no matter what we do. Certainly possible, probably even likely. I'm wary of the identification though. Stand-ups spend years perfecting their stage personas and routines so that, as with any good actor, the role seems true and natural.
