Possibly the most sensible comment I've seen on the subject.

This is funny...

Of course we walked on the moon.
Anyone who thinks we didn't is an idiot.
I can't prove that person is an idiot to a conspiracy theorist... because you
can't prove anything to people who refuse to accept facts.

I think Buzz's reaction is the most appropriate response. :)

More funny stuff...

http://whatstheharm.net/
http://whatstheharm.net/moonlandingdenial.html

The website shows "harm" caused by false beliefs.
It's not as ridiculous as some of these conspiracies... but it's close. :)

I LOVE the "harm" caused to Bart Sibrel because he denies the moon landing.

Actually there is a LOT of harm caused by climate deniers and young earthers. Teaching of real science is absolutely being threatened.

According to the Russians, Americans did land and walked on the moon, but over half of the images and videos from those expeditions are staged in order to increase the effect of the achievement.
After all Americans like Hollywood movies very much, and making one on the moon is simply way too expensive :)

One of the funniest jokes of the moon landing is that Americans never actually saw the video of the moon landing. They saw a video of the video of the moon landing. The lunar camera system was not compatible with the standard US TV signal and thus a camera had to be pointed to the video monitors. That's why it looked so crappy to most americans. People who would "fake" this wouldn't have faked it so poorly.

Or maybe they intentionally would fake it so poorly, knowing that people would think they wouldn't fake it so poorly and thus concluding it was real.

This was the 60's. This was during the height of the cold war. The amount of effort it took to fake out the American people by the government was so easy, even the government could do it.

If someone had to "fool" someone, it wasn't the American People. I mean if you could whitewash Apollo 1 you can whitewash anything. It was the Soviet Union you needed to fool. They had already sent unmanned probes to view the far side of the moon long before we started sending manned missions there. I'll be blunt here, the only reason why we managed to land on the Moon several times with only one major incident along the way was because of a no nonsense person in charge of NASA (after the Apollo 1 disaster) named George Lowe. KISS was a guiding principle, and a lot of money.

I've always liked that the tech didn't exist to fake the landings.

http://www.geek.com/news/why-it-was-impossible-to-fake-the-1969-moon-landing-1537386/

It would have been more difficult to fake the moon landings than to actually land on the moon given 1969 technology.

Was it impossible to fake the photos and videos?

That's the gist of it, yes. At least the videos. The tech needed to fake them didn't exist at the time.

It takes about 1.5 seconds for a radio signal to reach the moon from earth. I suspect this thread got there a while ago.

Would certainly explain a few things.

What was the specific technology that did not exist yet?

Low gravity simulation. By the way, the rotating room thing was originally done for Fred Astaire to allow him to dance on the ceiling.
