Man in the High Castle - Nerd TV?

Postby thegreekdog on Mon Dec 21, 2015 9:42 pm

So I'm watching The Man in the High Castle adaptation (or whatever) on Amazon. I just finished watching Jessica Jones on Netflix. There's The Walking Dead (comic) and GoT (fantasy novel)... two of the most popular shows on television. They have adapted The Expanse into a series.

Are we looking at nerd TV in 2015/2016? Are they going to start adapting more science fiction (and possibly fantasy)? Should I get excited?

Adaptations for a nerd audience are always going to be to tough. They've read the book. Films and series that are better than the book are rare.

Bladerunner is better than Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep though, so high hopes.

It seems that the wider, non-nerd audience appreciates the nerdy culture (e.g. the financial successes of the comic book adaptations). Additionally, TV seems like a good medium for these types of things as it is less costly by and large. Plus, you have a changing TV landscape that seems to allow for more experimentation and nerdiness (e.g. limited series and streaming television). So... I'm going to maintain hope that The Foundation series and Dune and all my other favorites will be adapted.

Hasn't Dune been adapted already by the SyFy channel?

I refuse to accept that this show is "nerd TV." Any self-respecting nerd should understand that the Axis could not have won the war.

I know nothing about this show, nor do I care. However, if the Axis, and especially Germany, had exploited its early lead in nuclear physics, it might have had the A-Bomb by 1942, and things might have been very different
