China is the best great power ever

Postby mrswdk on Sat Oct 03, 2015 6:22 pm

All hail the rise of the world's most pleasant super power! Breaking with the precedent set by its current colleagues on the Security Council - the UK, France, America, Russia - China has never:

  • Sent troops outside its borders, unless to protect someone from aggression
  • Interfered in another country to topple a government it didn't like
  • Imposed a puppet government on a country
  • Attempted to force its own views, ideology or principles on another nation
  • Violated another nation's internal sovereignty
  • Economically bullied another country
  • Occupied another country
  • Committed slavery or genocide

China, the nation which focuses on its own affairs and respects other nation's rights to do the same. China, the nation which only engages with other nations in the pursuit of mutually-beneficial ties and partnerships. China, leading the whole world forward into a century of prosperity, cooperation and respect.

All hail China \(^0^)/
All hail Pax Sina \(^0^)/
Long live the People's Republic of China \(^0^)/

Another good point. The Chinese people challenge their military when they behave questionably, citizens of the imperialist nations welcome them home as heroes:

LOL. I think Vietnam and the Phillipines would disagree.

We're talking about modern China (i.e. the PRC), not doing a history lesson on the deeds of the ancient dynasties.

It's probably just as well, if your understanding of Chinese history is so shaky that you think China 'occupied' Mongolia. Is Genghis Khan the Chinese emperor who invaded Mongolia or something?

If you want to ignore the ancient dynasties and just go with Communist China, fine. Scratch Siam, Cambodia, Japan and the Ryukyu off that list.

That still leaves you with:
  • Current and ongoing Chinese aggression in the Spratlys, Scarborough Shoal and and other islands belonging to the Philippines and Vietnam.
    • -- as kind of a corollary to the above, the aggression against the Sulu Sultanate remains relevant. Part of the Statement of Claim by which China today tries to justify the invasion of the Spratlys, is that the ancient dynasties also invaded the Spratlys back when they were still part of the Sulu Sultanate. I guess "two wrongs make a right" is their motto. So, even if you wish to disown the emperors, the State Council clearly does not.
  • It is only a few years since China organised and armed bandits in Nepal to foment a bloody civil war and overthrow the government of Nepal, giving the lie to your claim that China doesn't engage in causing regime change in neutral countries.
  • It is only 25 years since the Sino-Vietnamese border war ended. The death toll has never been made public, but I've seen some analysts claim that it might have been as high as 400,000.
  • China has often meddled in the Burmese civil war. Unlike Nepal, the war began before the communists started meddling in it so they can't be said to have fomented it, but they have certainly impacted its direction since then, and supported the most evil Burmese governments.
  • And of course, the great gorilla in the room -- the Chinese occupations of Tibet and East Turkestan continue unabated.

mrswdk wrote:I never said China is 100% cuddly and roses. Just that it is infinitely better than the neo-imperialists who make up the rest of the SC.

By the coincidences of geography, China has enjoyed a relatively isolated position on the eastern edge of the Eurasian continent, and so has had to fight relatively few wars to ensure its supremacy in the region. Now that it has the facilities to project power globally, that is unlikely to remain the case.

Disrespect for human rights is higher in China than in the Western powers, although as noted none of them smell like roses either.

That still leaves you with (mention of islands in the South China Sea, plus Xinjiang and Tibet, deleted because they are matters of China's internal sovereignty):
  • It is only a few years since China organised and armed bandits in Nepal to foment a bloody civil war and overthrow the government of Nepal, giving the lie to your claim that China doesn't engage in causing regime change in neutral countries.

Nonsense. Just because the rebels were Maoists does not mean they were somehow affiliated with or supported by China.

  • It is only 25 years since the Sino-Vietnamese border war ended. The death toll has never been made public, but I've seen some analysts claim that it might have been as high as 400,000.

That falls under the category of protecting another nation. Vietnam had just invaded Cambodia and overthrown the Cambodian government.

  • China has often meddled in the Myanmar civil war. Unlike Nepal, the war began before the communists started meddling in it so they can't be said to have fomented it, but they have certainly impacted its direction since then, and supported the most evil Burmese governments.

China only gets involved in the conflict in Myanmar when it spills over into China (as it did earlier this year, causing the deaths of several residents of Yunnan province). Other than that, it stays out of it.

The accusations that China gives support to any of the rebel factions within Myanmar have been rejected by everyone involved: China, Myanmar, and the rebels themselves.

I never said China is 100% cuddly and roses. Just that it is infinitely better than the neo-imperialists who make up the rest of the SC.

wat. The US is by far the most geographically isolated of all the world powers.

In any case, are you trying to argue that America, France, the UK and Russia have been involved in the Middle East, East/South East Asia etc. due to geographic proximity?

Given that your historic knowledge of Asia appears to be based on a Risk board*, and your modern knowledge almost entirely consists of copy-pasting Cold War propaganda, you'll forgive me for putting my half of our debate on hold until you have educated yourself about the geopolitical issues you have so far referenced in this thread.

Just because some propaganda asshole decides to rewrite the language to suit their agenda, doesn't obligate me to comply and fall in step.

I still refer to the Skydome as the Skydome, even though some asshole bought it years ago and changed the name to something stupid. I still refer to the RETURN key on my keyboard as the RETURN key, even though at some point they renamed it to the ENTER key.

There's a strip joint near here called the Rainbow. Actually, it's not officially called that any more. It was bought out in 1991 and renamed to Private Eyes. Guess what? Twenty-four years later I still call it the Rainbow, as do most of the locals.

I still refer to the Conservative Party as the Conservative Party, although in my lifetime they have gone through no less than four name changes in an effort to seem less conservative. Ironically, on their fourth name change they decided to stop bullshitting and rename themselves the Conservative Party. So, after riding out the storm for 42 years, I am now referring to them by their officially correct title.

Much the same happened with the Congo. For most of my life it called itself Zaire. I refused to adapt, and continued to call it the Congo. Now, after I don't know how many years, they have finally decided to rename themselves the Congo after all.

Oh, I see. Your insistence on referring to foreign places by their colonial names is a principled stand against the insidious march of progress. I assume you also call Zimbabwe 'Rhodesia' and Obama 'that n*gger' then?

Even though saxitoxin ignores facts, his fiction writing abilities is second to none in this forum and quite entertaining.

1. The US is funding the ongoing island disputes with the Philippines and Vietnam. Those islands has always been a part of China.
2. The military government of Burma was in power from 1968-2011. There is no evidence that the PRC funded the military junta.
3. The Maoist party won through an election. China didn't invade Nepal like the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq.
4. The Sino-Vietnamese War was fought because Vietnam invaded Cambodia, which was a Chinese ally. China honored their alliance with Cambodia. Since we are on the topic of Vietnam, you also forgot to mention the US-Vietnamese War where the US killed millions of Vietnamese civilians and dropped tons of chemicals on Vietnamese farmlands (Agent Orange) and the US has still not apologized for its involvement in war crimes. My Lai Massacre?
4. East Turkestan/Xinjiang. You forgot to mention the fact that the Han Chinese have been in XInjiang longer than the Uyghurs. Han Chinese have been in Xinjiang since the Han Dynasty (206BC-208AD) while the Uyghurs migrated to Xinjiang in the 700s. The capital of Xinjiang, Urumuqi was originally a Han Chinese settlement. Tibet will be free when the Americans decide to give the US back to the native Americans.
