I'm sorry. You must have missed them, maybe if you lifted that great wall of cyber China, you could see that.

For the record, the OP was NOT obvious. Thank you for taking my suggestion on making a more fitting title. :P

For the record, not every single aspect of culture is evil and outdated, often culture develops the way it does because it WORKS. Sure, things change, but there is a saying...'the more things change, the more things stay the same.'

Cultures develop the way they do because people at the time did not know any better.

One of the reasons the UK industrialized before the rest of the world because the UK was most willing to break from the religiosity of the past (most crucially, rooting it out of the education system).

I thought it was because they were stuck on an island by themselves and had to develop differently out of isolation.

One kind of fool says "this is old, so it is good."
Another kind of fool says "this is new, so it is better."

Neither old nor new guarantees anything. The cars of today are a lot better than the cars of the 1920s (although some of those had really cool looks!) On the other hand, the art of the Italian Renaissance has never been surpassed by anything that has come along since then.

Respect for one's history anchors one's identity in the tribe, in the same sense that the love of one's mother anchors one's identity in the family.

You know, this also sums up many of the arguments over upgrades here on CC, with you falling in the second category...

Well, yeah, man is a tribal species. Feeling disconnected from one's tribe results in an effect known as alienation, which leads to (in mild cases) general unhappiness and (in severe cases) a wide variety of psycho-social disorders.

Is there a name for a psychological condition in which one's need for validation leads them to construct imaginary connections between themselves and total strangers?

Comprehension is a strong point?

"Groupthink is sometimes stated to occur (more broadly) within natural groups within the community", also known as aquaitances.

So why did you link to Groupthink. Groupthink is the false logic by which we all continue to reply to your posts in the misguided belief that you will learn. We are not total strangers, we are united by this website.

I got a question.

Should the cultural idea of respect for one's elders and teachers be discarded too simply because it is old and a part of culture? :V

Why give respect arbitrarily? Let teachers and parents earn respect from children, not demand it on the grounds that Confucius said kids should respect their elders.

Noted.

Hey everyone, Mrswdk advocates we should ignore the idea that elders might potentially have wisdom from life experience we do not have, or that teachers know little of what they talk about!

Maybe they shouldn't demand respect, but that does not mean we should automatically disrespect them simply because we think they know better. Respect should be given to those in authority unless they break trust or clearly do not know what they are talking of.
