I don't get it...when you look around at what else is offered Conquer Club seems to trump everything quite easily. Especially for what you can do on here as a freebie.

well, you really have to go back to team CC waging war against its members... shutting down flame wars... banning prominent members for life... throwing map makers off of the site and refusing to give them their work or remove it... the big purge of the forums for the alleged sale (remember that fake dude harasi or whatever they used to do that?)... the freestyle rule change also had a huge chunk of members shuffling out the door and onto other things... i would love to see the numbers, but i truly believe the change in the freestyle rules made close to if not over, half the site leave...

i hated freestyle, but i knew it was a huge community and they were rabid... it was really sad to watch a unique and cool place attacked by those in charge, because they felt they knew what the site was and how it would be best to move forward... the moves by many showed they truly did not have a pulse on the community or even come close to understanding what made CC tick... they stabbed us all in the back and then retired and every now and then turn up with a snarky comment and a "blame it on FACEBOOK and the PLAYSTATION," declaration. it is sad... we all watched it, many of us stood up and railed against it and fought back with our words... they fought back by banning people and changing rules as they saw fit...

i think the 2 largest blows to CC were the killing of FLAMEWARS/Forums and the destruction of FREESTYLE game play as we all once knew it... believe it or not, the most mentions i saw online about CC when i researched joining after a friend urged me, were mostly about the amazing forums and in particular, FLAMEWARS... odd that a site was known for it's forums and it's insane FLAMEWARS, decided to kill them off for a sale to HASBRO that never materialized... so many errors, and it isn't like i'm playing monday morning QB or sunday morning porn star, i bitched about every single move and pointed out the error in logic... oh well... BW has his work cut out for him... if he were smart, aside from the obvious changes we have all posted about, he would change the freestyle rule back and send out a mass email to all members past and current. i bet you would get more than a "bump" in membership... the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir

I left CC last year; however a couple days I signed up for a quarterly subscription. I signed up because I wanted to play a polymorph game and you need to be a premium member to create those games.

I'm not a freestyle fan...haven't played it since the early days. I wasn't even aware of the rule change...think it happened during my forced (wife) exodus a couple years back.

But yes, freestyle had a sizeable following...that's too bad...but seems like something easy to restore?

Today I have for once in a long while clicked on "display the post" with owen. My suspicions were confirmed. Owen is just throwing out empty flames once again. He doesn't realise that dropping from 24k to 8K in a period of over 7 years is not a short term drop by any means. Nor does he seem to realize people leave games all the time, whether it be popular games or unpopular games. There is a force majeure at play here. I suspect the guy is old, since he doesn't even know how fast people swap games in this day and age. Seems he is still living in the early 2000's.

the sad thing is, it has been this way for quite some time... you have some great mods on this site, the one in question is in no jeopardy of becoming one of those!! when the mods began to wage their war on the forums (closing down flame wars, banning members for life for posts, not cheating in the game, but for WORDS they did not agree with, stealing maps from members they kicked off the site, 6 month made up bans, etc), this "we are better than you" stance was taken and a few still act that way. i will be the first to say the moderation in the forums has improved greatly and it is almost as wide open as it was before the great forum destruction, but a few shitty apples remain.

the great decline began when they killed the forums and killed freestyle. at that team, team CC (BW was not part of that team) did not seem to give one f*ck about it's membership and felt that if they pissed us off, others would come with cash in hand, ready to be abused and treated like shit in general. guess what, ray? you built/changed the site we all said would fail and they didn't come... they fled in flocks and droves and caravans... but, according to a few doltish comments, this is only natural... the black jesus is amused...-Jésus noir

Owen is a bully and deserves nothing less. He's been nothing but negativist for a very long time. Every so often when someone tries to be constructive and optimistic, he attempts to put that person down. Multiple times already when a newbie came down to the forums, he would mock the person's lack of understanding. He actively discourages people to make an attempt at mapmaking and I've heard from several people already, both staff and non-staff, that they just stay away from GD purely because of Owen and his possy.

All this in addition with the fact that he has been personally insulting me for quite some time now leads me to the point that he deserves nothing less than ill treatment. (Note as well that I'm merely a volunteer not a professional, and as such I have very little reason to even attempt professionalism.)

I feel like ranting a bit. Does the new(not the old way) freestyle rule suck? 100% yes. They lost a ton of people over it. Not sure how many. Freestyle and speed do not exist anymore due to bad rules, and mad lag at times. People finally just quit. Mods have been under assult also. Many long time great mods were pushed out for various reasons. This has all but sealed this deal and put the nail in the coffin.

CC has an uphill battle with today's instant everything era. Games today offer players with instant playing. Something CC fails really bad at. In 2006 when CC launched we did not have smart phones, laptops and tablets everywhere, and a million games on facebook and every other site.

CC has made many errors over its time. Some more costly than others. It will be interesting to see if CC can rebound or keep falling. I think I speak for everybody here when I say I think we all want CC to survive.

1. please show me the instances where i drove a newbie from the forums. you would be shocked at how many new players contact me for into about the forums, games, help with filing complaints, etc... you have no idea who i am or what i do or how much i love/participate within this community. you see a persona that you can't understand, so i am offensive to you... it is easier to attack something you don't understand...

2. i find it interesting that i discourage maps. i went and found the instance you are speaking of. i said a map of the globe was redundant, had been done before and unless it offered something new, it should never see the light of day... shockingly, you must have gone and tried to get me in trouble with the powers that be, because the next post you made stated: Maps with classical gameplay won't be admitted anymore. Every new map needs to add something quasi unique in gameplay, however minor it may be. So this map isn't going anywhere unless something is added.

can we please get back on topic. the site needs to clean up the maps, show the most popular ones and unlock others after you compete x amount of games or purchase premium... it needs to be cleaned up for new players, so they are not confused... same goes with the game options, there are too many and i really believe that is what killed the site... or is killing the site... change the freestyle rule back, eliminate so many freaking game options, unless you are premium (condense the number of games available and you will have an increase in the number of games played. no more waiting a month to possibly fill a game)... they are already trying to kick start the forums... maybe some more contests should be done... what would be cool would be if the site gave clans some prizes to hand out in contests like the BpB used to do (full premium, not bullshit 1 month or 1 quarter premium)... this thing can be turned around... it really can... and Big Wham, how about announcing when you finish something new?!! i never hear about new changes unless someone posts about it or i stumble across it!! be proud of your work!! show it off!!! the black jesus has rambled...-Jésus noir

Do you know what drives so many people away, and has almost driven me off lately?

The insane dice odds. Twice just today, I lost a 8 player tournament game to incredibly bad odds. Now I can see it once in awhile, but not on the consistent basis it is happening. When you loose 200+ points loosing a 7-1 roll, and a 21-10 roll, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I have seen many people quit after being victims of such crazy bad odds time after time.

Now I am not a computer geek, but I have seen it brought up time after time that our dice generator is hokey.

i agree... the switch from a third party dice generator (random.org) to our own generator, seems to have caused major friction within the community... something else that has not been addressed...-Jésus noir

When you rise in rank/points, maps will be reopened to you...In others words, start dividing the maps up according to ranks...Well, for the regular joes...When playing in The Public Pool... ....As for travelers.../missed turns... I don't know about outside the USA. But there is wifi everywhere here... Lab tops shouldn't be a problem.. I never have any... But I would like to see things better,I-phones and such(Even though I'm one of the few left with just a land line)...If it would liven up membership/activity... "I'm tired of seeing Kramer and Newman running around the streets carrying their RISK board,looking for games to fill up"...
