Farewell, loray68 - Retirement Thread

Postby owenshooter on Tue Jan 13, 2015 1:38 pm

it is with a sad and heavy heart that i bid adieu to one of my favorite CC players of all time... today, in global chat, loray68 stated he was leaving the site forever...

Image

i wish him nothing but smooth sailing and the wind to his back... i'll always remember him as being a truly tough opponent and studious student of the game... my heart is breaking into a thousand tiny pieces with this latest set-back to the CC community... i will end this post with a quote from his favorite warrior and his favorite song... FAREWELL, LORAY68!!!

I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.-

Alexander the Great

pouring a 40 for my homey... the black jesus is heartbroken... i invite all of his friends and foes to leave reminders of his past glory and amazing CC achievements in this thread... I LOVE YOU, MAN!!!-Jésus noir

I still remember fondly the time Loray was sitting on 68 troops, our opponent 43 and I had 20 troops. Our mutual opponent captured North America and Loray took the opportunity to shore up his borders and take my 12th territory so I got 3 reinforcements instead of 3. I put my 3 troops deep in Africa to try to survive rather than ram 4 troops at our opponent's buffer of 8. Loray called me a miserable twat that should've ended up in a tissue rather than my whore mother's gaping crevasse. He said he slapped my father across the face for having such an idiot son and spit in my sister's face on a regular basis for having such a an idiotic, worthless brother. I don't even have a sister....

"Did I ever tell you about the time Loray took me out to go get a drink with him? We go off looking for a bar and we can't find one. Finally, Loray takes me into a vacant lot and says, 'Here we are.' Well, we sat there for a year and a half. Sure enough, someone constructed a bar around us. Well, the day they opened it, we ordered a shot, drank it, and then burnt the place to the ground. Loray yelled over the roar of the flames, 'Always leave things the way you found them!'"

And I'll be damned if he didn't leave the site the way he found it: a fvcking joke filled with fvckheads.

I remember when I first met Loray. It was way back in 2013. I'd been on the site a little while, but I hadn't really been active in chat or anything. I guess you could call me a chat virgin. I mean, I'd been on AOL way back when, but... I guess what I'm saying is I was a little naïve. We started talking about shows and movies we liked. He was kind of like a mentor when Dad and my big brother weren't around. My mom was always working late and, you know, my nana was sick at the time so she wasn't around.

Anyway, Loray invited me over to uhh... be on his "show." You know, he said it wasn't a taped "show." But... we, like, did a "show," from his "office." I mean, he called it his office, but it was the bottom floor of his house. I mean, it had carpet, but the walls were just cement, not like drywall or anything. It was kind of musty and all, like a basement, I guess. But it did have a desk, so... But... uhh.. he had a, a bed in it... Well, more of a couch really. I remember, we called it "Uncle Lory's bed". He said it was his special bed for him and uhh... his "special show friends". Because, he said, you know, "Cos a couch can be like a special show bed" You know?

Loray molested me...

...

He... uhh... called me a fvcker and kicked me out...

never really knowing loray, i guess was a missed opportunity at a profound cc experience. the name he chose is in itself a testament to the type of player and gentleman that carried such a burden.

lo, short for low, which is sometimes seen as a depression, or trough that would take and hold sediment forming a fossilized record that would tell stories of years passed. often it can likened to a bargain or deal. which we all search our entire lives to receive. and still can be an expression "hey bro, give me five.... down low". which is of all the meanings that could be used, one of the better ones.

then you have "ray". which to some is just a simple name. a beautiful three letter name. my dads best friend was named ray. before he passed of course. ray liked mustangs. he had about 13 mustangs from the 65 all the way up to i would guess a 95. only ray could know for sure. somewhere one would use it when discussing mathematics. a simple point with a direction. it could start right here. or here. or even here. or right there above your computer. but it would go on to infinity in any direction you like. that's just the quality of a ray. much like to others in the form of a sun's ray. which is basically just a mathematical ray. but way more astonishing. the rays of the sun are not only felt on this planet, but also mercury. and venus. and heck, you can probably even see them from vega, or another star way out there.

and then we have the precious #68. not quite that beautiful # that signifies love between a man and a woman, but we get it. it's there. we "understand".

what meaning did loray mean for his name? who knows.... and why would you want to. the beauty of it is the not knowing. i hope that a person like loray would prefer us to just hold our own meaning. i feel sad to have missed the chance to throw the dice in a few games with this beloved player. or missed his ramblings in chat.

Williams: A beautifully deep and complex tribute to a beautifully deep and complex player.

It reminds me of the time Loray once said to me, "fvck you, dIckfvck." Truly--wise words, from the wisest of CCers.

You'll be with me always, Loray.

i'm sure they were spoken in such a sweet soft voice. like a little bitty mouse. or opposum. or wait a little chicken. "peep peep... fvck you, dickfvck... peep peep. "

I remember when I first realized the depth of how brilliant, intuitive and compassionate Loray was. I had been having sessions with Loray where we'd talk about art, math, love, life, whatever. He was helping me out after I'd got in some trouble for getting in a fight and the police said I'd hit one of them when they were breaking up the fight. Anyway, I could tell he believed in me and he encouraged me to get my shit together despite me only being a janitor at the time. Owen had put me on to him, but I could always tell Owen didn't quite get me, though he was trying. I thought they'd both give up on me. And when Owen was close to it, Loray stood up for me. He understood the way I would often sabotage interpersonal relationships as a defense mechanism to avoid any emotional pain. Loray got me to open up about my childhood abuse. He talked about it as if he already knew whether I told him or not. I'd told an old girlfriend about it anyway and some of my friends knew 'cause we'd get drunk and talk about it. But Loray was the first person who really connected with me about it. And I remember, he just kept saying "It's not your fault" and embraced me. That was when I first let it all go. Then, he put his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the eye and said "Stop being such a puss, you fvcking dickfvk!" and punched me square in the gut. As I hunched over, only catching my balance by putting my hands on my knees, I could hear him hack and felt his spit land forcefully on the back of my head. I only caught a glance of him skipping away, laughing merrily. Just before he disappeared around a corner he shouted "How do you like them apples, fvckhead!?"
