hate rail maps vent thread

Postby Ltrain on Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:40 am

look, i've gotten over the ok this guy doesn't link up with this guy thing. I've played a butt load of games. But I still HATE rail maps!

I do like maps that incorporate rail into the movement but purely rail maps, every time they pop up in clan games, let's just say I am less than excited.

Again, not hating on the creators. It is a different way of playing, which is important on the site.

but OMG I HATE THEM! :D

Pretty ironic considering your username...:)

yeah... that 100% incorrect... it is the "L"...

The Chicago rapid-transit system is officially nicknamed the 'L'. This name for the CTA rail system applies to the whole system: its elevated, subway, at-grade, and open-cut segments. The use of the nickname dates from the earliest days of the elevated railroads.

I will admit I am biased here. Back in the early 1990's I wrote the code (both the server and the graphical front ends) for an online version of Mayfair Games "Empire Builder" (the first of what would be a number of games in the genre of Crayon rails for the Multi Player Games Network originally in Poughquag NY and later in Key West FL.

I LOVE THEM.

But let's face it. They aren't really "rail maps" are they? They are more like "Station Maps." Calling it a "rail map" is sort of like calling a regular map "border maps" because rails in these maps form the same function as territory borders form in regular maps; a mere way to be able to explain why X can attack Y. You are not "building" track, or "possessing" track any more than you possess a territory's borders.

no you are 100% wrong. good lord man you're not even from chicago, i've been there twice and you decide to make an issue out of something that is not relevant to my good natured thread topic and that you are completely wrong about.

The first thing it says on wiki dude, right up at the tip top:
The Chicago  'L ' (sometimes written as "L" or "el", short for "elevated)

yea... i do actually like a few maps where rails are incorporated into a standard kinna map. but rails in and of themselves bother me. i think, and im just getting in touch with this now :) that i don't like them because regions that only boarder 1-2 other regions are easy to spot on a regular map but are harder to spot in rail. and i do like learning confusing boards, but for some reason not rail!

actually, i am from chicago... and if you knew that "L" was also correct, then why would you tell someone they were wrong? admit it, you had no idea what you were talking about... but hey, your little angry post on my wall was kind of cute... how old are you? who goes around posting "idiot" on someone's wall because they correct them in the forums? *snicker*... i suggest you take a little time to yourself, take a deep breath and come back to the forums when you can act mature and further the discourse, not name call and run about posting on walls, because a post upsets you... oh, and i was born at northwestern memorial, the manger story is just to sell the story a bit more...

and i am not a fan of the maps, but i can hold my own on them when they pop up in the random setting i play so often... when people try to incorporate rail with a regular map, it can be an epic fail... but, maps like nyc get it right and i enjoy when i come across in my settings... once you understand the basic concept, the maps aren't that difficult.. and if you can grab some line bonuses that the other player is clueless about, the match is over... the black jesus has spoken..-Jésus noir

LOS TRAIN.. (psst, that is making fun of EL train..)

you corrected me and you were wrong so i posted one word on your wall that seems to define you even more than i thought

there are a number of things here that point to you being a message board loser. The fact that you started this nonsense at all, that you referred to my one word message (idiot) as an "angry little post" ... not sure how a one word message qualifies. Oh but you are more concerned with how others see you on a message board. And you asked how old I was... classic message board loser bullshit. Click on my profile if you want to know how old I am.

Lets click on your profile! hmm... no age listed. HOLY SHIT! 9268 posts to the message boards! wow. So you have played 2326 games and talked about it 9268 times?

The fact that you ARE from Chicago makes me actually question your sanity. Why would you keep this going when it is so painfully obvious that you are wrong? I really don't enjoy kicking a man while he's down

What???!!! The rail maps are fantastic to play.

I love the idea that the rail maps are misnamed because you don't build track.
