Put that Pepsi Down!

Postby Nobunaga on Sat May 26, 2007 9:51 pm

Caution: Some soft drinks may seriously harm your health:

A new health scare erupted over soft drinks last night amid evidence they may cause serious cell damage. Research from a British university suggests a common preservative found in drinks such as Fanta and Pepsi Max has the ability to switch off vital parts of DNA.

... can eventually lead to cirrhosis of the liver and degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's.

... Sodium benzoate has already been the subject of concern about cancer because when mixed with the additive vitamin C in soft drinks, it causes benzene, a carcinogenic substance.

I don't like Pepsi anyway. And I know pop is bad for me. But, call it my tobacco.

haha I only skimmed the first part.

That torture thing is serious. Kinda puts things in perspective, when you talk about torture.

Al Qaeda terrorists - torture
Gitmo - not torture

can't call it both torture.

... Faygo.... rings a bell.

.... Interesting that this study is from the UK. I wonder how much coverage this will get in the States. (and wonder how much Coke, Pepsi, etc... give as donations to congressmen) (always a cynic)

What about Diet Coke?

The reason we have these health scares is because the testing is illogical. Yes if you ate a 5 pound bag of artificial sweetener everyday you might get cancer or if you drank the preservative in those soft drinks by the gallon for years you'd have health problems, but no one does so theres not a problem

I think Sprite was one of the main ones, I'm not sure about coke, I only read the first few lines.
