They are also declaring amnesty on many perma-banned members.

It's pretty obvious the forum rules and guidelines have been relaxed.

The next step is to reintroduce Flame Wars.

It starts by making the old posts accessible again.

The old posts are gone to the dustbin of history. I'm not even kidding.

The second problem is that Team CC thinks that Flame Wars should stay dead.

Which leads me to the point that I have always held, but recently been able to re-articulate:
Team CC directly killed CC.

Back in the Day, lackattack was the admin, there was Twill and Andy and wicked as mods, and then the mod squad, so Team CC totaled like 5-7 people for the first year.

When the tournaments forum was created, it had ONE moderator, in addition to the mod squad. Same with clans, the foundry etc.

As Team CC grew and grew everything was going great, the site was growing but lackattack became more and more distant from the site. He wasn't playing games, he stopped planning the events, he didn't post in the threads, he didn't comment on the suggestions or join the tournaments. Lackattack had a reasonable idea, and he did what thousands of game developers could only dream of - he got lucky and had a loyal community following.

Then, Team CC allowed lackattack to vanish. We enabled him to abandon all the parts of CC that make it great. So, the decline began.

The forum was also killed by the splintering of it. Most people read the forum by clicking through it in a browser. To view each subforum now takes dozens of clicks. To those who get it through newsfeed, it all comes in an easily digestible format, but for the rest the forum is lost. Team CC pushed most of the forum archetypes. In this way, we also contributed to the decline in a mechanical way.

Individuals in Team CC also caused a ruckus - full-blown fights across the forum, clan splits, favoritism, lobbying admin, calling Hasbro. We contributed to the decline of CC simply by creating a divide between the haves and the have-nots. I remember when Fircoal would log in once a year but he was a discussions mod for years after that. Same for nagerous. Did anyone notice safariguy5 leaving?

Then we have my love-hate object - the newsletter. It's great when there is a community to write about and who wants to read about it. Now, it only makes apparent how dead the site is. Since it is given to every member, everyone sees how much of a ghost the site is.

I am starting to think that the events I (mostly) plan and run are also contributing to the decline. We get a few last miles out of players before they realize that they have gotten everything out of CC they can. We further splinter the game selection process by taking up more of players' time with tournaments and events, and less with casual games.

The over-moderation of bygone years is already gone, but we (as Team CC members) need to focus on how to minimize our negative impacts on the site.

An alternative way to look at it is that lackattack would have vanished anyways and without Team CC, the decline would have been done by now.

sorry, i think you are wrong... flame wars vanished right around the rumor of a sale to HASBRO surfaced. that is also when the forums in general began their great purge. i am not going to name names, but some of them are still around and should be really ashamed for how they destroyed a very vibrant, active and noteworthy forum. most reviews of CC back then had a blurb about how great the forums were or how they were one of the best for an online gaming site. they killed that in anticipation of a "family friendly" site... the final blow was the fake admin they hired to do the dirty work... so, it wasn't lack vanishing or having an actual life, it was the cleansing of the site to what they believed HASBRO would find acceptable... that is a pretty popular theory... the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir™

p.s.-i'm in a game with lack right now... he is around now as much as he was then... guy gave us this site, so mad respect forever for him... i don't care what he did to those tranny's in thailand...

That is one thing I never liked or agreed with. If you cheat at the game, you just buy your way back in. If you upset someone in the fora, you could be banned for life.

So cheating has a price in money, but bannings there is no monetary amount that can right it, but there definitely is a cost and you are potentially denied a service you paid for.

um... nobody in power has ever really seemed to be able to understand that (*looking squarely at you, ANDY)... you can be a C&A mod, use the C&A info to join games that are deadbeating to climb up the scoreboard, get caught and have nothing really happen to you... in the past, say something honest and truthful about CC, get a ban... say something that butt hurts an admin, get 6 months... how do the words seen by less than 1% of all CC'ers have THAT huge of an effect on the site? cheating in the game is far more serious and ripples throughout the scoreboard.. however, here on CC, as in real life, the pen is apparently mightier than the sword...-Jésus noir™

I don't know anything particular ab who did what in the past, but Owen is right ab gameplay cheating being far more relevant than forum issues. The forums is such a tiny part of CC.

yet, forum goers are more harshly punished than people that cheat the game and get to the top. look at this effort to bring back blitz, a horrible cheat, but his sentence is up and he can now return... truth be told, they are openly allowing forum goers with perma-bans to seek to have them overturned, but they have not been given a free pass... it is a step in the right direction. to me, cheating for years is far worse than a few words in the forums few will ever see... the C&A mod that cheated to get to climb up the leader board got a slap on the wrist, no point reset and remained a mod (is that last detail correct?)... cheaters are considered less of a risk to CC than people that post in a little seen forum... the priorities are f'd...-Jésus noir™

p.s.-most of the prominent flame war goers were perma-banned and i doubt they would come back. we had entire clans that were devoted to the fine art of the flame... the CC flame wars forum had WWW notoriety!!! chaosfactor pops in every now and then to antagonize the site, but that is about it... flame wars is dead... the forums barely have a heartbeat... and some of the people that did it still post about the forums as if everything is still fine... ridiculous..
