the Mods doth protest too much?

Postby flashleg8 on Thu May 24, 2007 8:50 am

Lack must have really kicked the mods into touch after the Spamalot debacle as the mods have finally seemed to have woken up.
The only think is threads are getting moved, deleted and locked all over the shop.
I'm all for a forum clean up and a crack down on bigotry but its a bit confusing when the threads keep migrating and disappearing!

It was my understanding that it the posts contained strong language they were in flame wars and everything else was in social lounge - has that changed? Or did I just have it wrong from the start?

Edit:  the dirty rats MOVED it on me

I moved this just for you. Threads are not disappearing.. shadow topics are left so you can find them. Flame Wars is for bashing your opponents, even the dice, but not religion. Yes, strong language is allowed there. Everything that's OFF-TOPIC in regards to Conquer Club, is posted in the Social Lounge. Flaming is not allowed there.

Let us know if you have any other questions. You can also consult the Forum Guidelines to see what is and isn't allowed.

Nae bother!
By the way, I do support a firmer hand to stop any outright bigotry/racism or religion bashing as I've said before elsewhere. I like the international multicultural range present on the forum - all bigotry does is scare people away.

So there's no place available for flaming anything that isn't other players or dice?

Apparently not Mustard! I have 'educated myself' on this point

I understand why it happened.. all the nonsense from Xtratabasco mainly!
but we can no longer debate anything with religious or racial content.

that buffoon and many like him has spoiled this place irreparably it would seem!

Sure you can. Debate does not have to involve name calling.

But what if the OP desires to debate in an atmosphere in which coarse language, ad hominem and ranting are permitted? Are we not allowed to do that anymore?

Given that a poster has the option of choosing their arena of debate, I fail to see the problem with people arguing issues in the Flame Wars section. The forum even comes with a 'buyer beware' label in the index. If people want to debate in a no-holds barred fashion, why not let them? If they want civillised debate, then they just need to remember that the Flame Wars aren't the place to find it.

Sure, posters who clearly had no interest in debate, but who were just trolling for a reaction on a daily basis in a stifling multitude of threads ought to have been weeded out (Xtratabasco, that's you); but this new crackdown on non-Risk related flaming seems fairly absurd.

What precisely is the logical reason for it?

Hopefully within the next few days will have a post to explain everything a little further and properly. :)

You're really dumb if you think 7th grade name-calling is going to fight bigotry.....How about educating yourself so you can carry on a civilized debate?

I agree with you Wicked... but i rarely if ever resort to name calling as a tool of debate, that would be dumb.
