Historically Russia has been an Ally of Iran as well. They were backing them during the last Iran-Iraq war. Guess which country was backing Iraq? Russia been saying they might go to war with us if that happens, Russia has been re-mobilzing and making the US their number one enemy. Horray, WW3 here we come. I hope to god this doesn't happen.

Iran isn't going to launch an offensive against the US. If that were to happen they would lose all the popular support they've got inside the states. Russia won't go to war with the states because they would get their arses handed to them on a silver platter. They would complain to the UN, maybe pressure Europe a bit with oil, but they would end up foiled by the USA's veto power in the UN SC. Russia is an economic threat, not a military one. In fact, the US military is by far the supreme power at the moment. It may have difficulty in enforcing its will on foreign countries, but its nearest traditional warfare rival comes nowhere near it in capabilities.

I honestly don't understand the furor over the covert ops in Iran, I for one support them. I was against the second Gulf War when it was declared. Covert ops mean that the US is looking for an alternative means, other than all out warfare, to influence Iran. I think we should all support this sort of change in policy.

I'm afraid its all speculative bollocks, Avron, and although you seem to have the root of the politics correct (Russian support of Iran, US gradually tightening the pressure) this is all pretty extreme assumption. It is such a tightly balanced situation (in the same way the Cold War proxy conflicts were) that it is highly unlikely that it will spill over into armed conflict in the near future. The US still can't afford to provoke Russia into a diplomatic standoff. It will all be economic and propoganda-based, not military.
