What exactly are you discussing mets? I doubt you don't get my point. Are you arguing for the sake of arguing? How many more posts do we need to agree that those tournaments aren't getting filled because the prizes are way bellow "market price"? An orange star doesn't even deserve to be called a prize; while the exact same tournament, if run by any of us and not automatically would award a tournament achievement!
I think that a tournmanet deserves a tournament achievement, and I call a tournament anything that is within the guidelines you posted in here.

I'm just trying to have a broader conversation here about how we reward people for participating in tournaments. Do you think that people would stop joining community tournaments if there was no tournament achievement medal?

I can't speak for other people, but I know I would stop joining them. You are happy to win a tournament, and a cup materialises your win (as in any competition). I'm pretty sure that many people don't care; but medals were created on this site for a reason. It does hook you up and you try to collect them. If by doing something on a section of the site you get a reward, but if you do it on another section of the site you don't; I'd like at least to understand why.

I can't speak for bigWham as I don't know what his motivation was in assigning medals to some and not others. But one possible reason is that there's just a lot more autotournaments than community tournaments at any given time. If we gave a tournament achievement medal for every auto, wouldn't it start to de-value the tournament achievement medal?

Now apart from the tournament achievement issue; how about a lobby where people could show in real time all the different settings/maps they would like for the tournament?

As in, make requests to the admins for specific autotournaments?

Well, in my case, I never joined auto tournaments because I m not a fan of what is proposed by bigwham compared to community based tournaments.
I think new maps/ settings could be used once in a while. Maybe there should be a speed tournament planning page, and you could register several days in advance or so, in order to have broader settings ect..

It is possible to create community based speed tournaments but it s a nightmare to organize. If you think it might devaluate the tournsment acheivement medals (for doing the same thing!) well just put some entry fees with stars, or limit the amount of tournaments one can enter per month, i don t know. If spme players managed to get 200+ tournament achievement wins, you can imagine that it s not like it s something that hard if you register like crazy to tournaments.

Regarding your second question, I was thinking that there could be a lobby page with all players willing to play an autotournament, and where players could chat about their map/settings preferences. You would have the same options as on the start a game page, only that it would kind of work like a poll. If you don t like what the majority has chosen you could still pull out and wait for the next one.

Maybe we could offer joke books for prizes.

Or a smiley face mixed in amongst your other medals and achievements?

That would be hot

I want a smiley themed on rhp for all my tournament medals from now on. The cap can change colour for bronze, silver etc.

ok, let's now compare the comparable.

look at the new prize pool, it's just hilarious:

entry: 1 electric green, 1 auburn, 1 drab x 16 players registering
4th place prize: 1 electric green
3rd place prize: 1 purple
2nd place prize: 1 silver
1st place: 1 orange

Big wham really needs to figure out a realistic risk/reward policy, how am I the only one to find this idiotic? There are 48 stars in stake and the payout is.... are you out of your mind???
I mean those stupid stars look even more useless and ridiculous than they already are. I got yet another orange by logging in this morning and a silver for accepting a game invite. How can he value winning a tourney the same way as joining any given game???

to give an idea, just by joining games or so I have 5 orange, 9 silver compared to 6 auburn and 11 drabs. the "value" I therefore give to those oranges and silvers is no way near the way bigwham values them.

Exactly.

Community tournaments took a bit of work to run, and they were always counted as tournaments per week or tournaments per month.

Autotournaments are starting several times a day, and I see a time in the not-distant future when there will be several times per hour. It would be ridiculously easy to rack up hundreds of autotournament wins playing the smaller ones, and that would really cheapen the accomplishments of people who have racked up hundreds of wins playing real tournaments.

The prize structure is still a work-in-progress, but they are definitely going in the right direction, giving bigger prizes only for bigger tournaments, and little cheezy prizes for winning the little cheezy ones.

This doesn t make any sense either. You are telling me that by accomplishing the exact same thing one deserves a better prize... Just because it goes slower? Just because you opponent is a pain in the ass and takes 23h to take all his turns, or because the tournament organizer takes weeks to update his tourneys it doesn t make your tourney win more worthy.

As i said before, those stars are worthless. If you are concerned by people entering too many speed auto tournaments, well ask an amount of stars that goes accordingly. But give a proper prize!!

It s always the same people joining those speed auto tourneys, you might want to try to interest a broader audience.

I generally agree with betty. I'm just entered a speed tournament where the prize is an orange star. Now, it cost me precisely nothing to join the tournament, but I won an orange star just for logging in this morning..

If we gave a tournament achievement medal for every autotournament, people would have no motivation to join community tournaments, and community tournaments would die quickly. You have to come up with a compromise solution that prevents that from happening. If you have a specific idea, please present it.

Apart from the fact that community tournaments, for the most part, are better and currently capable of much more than autotournaments.

exactly.
I have no motivation whatsoever to join any casual autotournament, the structures and such aren't really interesting. Generally the community comes up with interesting things. I have never joined any casual autotournaments and i really don't think that people lost interest in community tournaments.

The speed autotournaments however can be interesting because basically you have a possible reward for playing speed games and losing points. As I said before, the site did that at some point and I joined a few because it was interesting and what I was looking for.
Otherwise you guys crack me up seriously. the probability to win one of these tournaments is 6,25% and you guys are talking as if it was easy to win. Go ahead then, join 8 of them and tell me how many of themyou've won mets! Do you guys really think that the probability to win goes up because it's an auto tourney?

also, unless you haven't read my message; I've said to ask for more stars to join those tournaments if your problem is that people might join too many of them.

Of course not. But there are 6 of them a day or some such thing, so if you wanted to milk them for medals, and if you won 1/16, you could have a medal every three days or so (assuming an average win rate) and in only three months you would be maxed out at thirty medals and whining that the medal cap needs to be removed, or whining that you're bored with CC and posting in the "Is CC no fun anymore?" thread.

Sorry betiko, but setting up a situation where someone can win a medal every three days would just be devaluing the medals that people have spent years accumulating. Blatant debauching of the currency.

You know one could just go to the tournament page and join everything available and create tournaments over and over? How do you think some people have won 200+ tourneys? The cap is at 200 tourneys, how do you expect people to pass that milestone as easy as you pretend? Not even spending every single day of a year playing every single of those tournaments someone would achieve it.
Do you really think people would play every tournament available? And did you read my suggestion about asking for more stars to join such tournaments?
All your arguments are utterly ridiculous.

The speed auto tournaments are absolutely lame and have a huge potential. Why keep them lame? You guys have no solid argument, just unjustified fears.

great! :)

what i would propose:

-for low fee/no fee entrance; give out some blue to pink stars for winners/second
-for medal acheivement tournaments, make us pay a silver or an orange; something like that

also, I feel like there isn't even a 2/1 ratio from orange till drab. at least not in my experience. here is the quantity I have for the 6 most common stars (never used any):
10/15/15/11/12/18
It basically feels pretty random and that the "rarity" thing isn't working too well.

Anyway, glad you agree that there is an obvious flaw with the current spent/retribution mets.
