I believe in ghosts. I've seen one. Sure some may say it was a hallucination, and some may say that it was fog or something realistic, but I know what it was.

Jay, if you ever see a ghost, would you yell "Away with ye demon!" at it, or try to take a picture of it? Or run away, which is the best option if you ask me.

And the one I saw didn't seem to have any intent. It was just there.

None of the above? I'd probably watch it. I wouldn't fear it as I know what it is. (Which is why I probably won't ever see one or hear one (again))

When I was a kid, I had few occasions where I would hear things, footsteps in the attic, someone or something moving outside my window one summer night. These were when I was pretty young (6-10). They have since stopped occurring. The footsteps in the attic one my dad tried to explain away by telling me it was the furnace. But that didn't explain why these footsteps ran from wherever they where in the attic to right above my head when I yelled out "Hello?". I never bought the furnace story.

Maybe they do still occur and your indoctrination writes them off before your brain can process them.

A severe adherence to dogma tends to shut off your brain.

Gah, I hate the scene at the hospital when he tells his secret. His eyes are all wet and teary.. I'm like "BLINK GODDAMMIT!!" It really bugs me that he just keeps it all there. If he had just blinked...

*takes a deep breath* It's okay. I'm allright.

Figments of your imagination. Don't underestimate the power of your mind, take for examples hallucinations, they could be induced by drugs, high fever, dehydration, dementia, etc... In short, when you "see" or "hear" a ghost it's just your brain playing tricks on you.

All of which only explains some cases, but not all. It is arrogant to the extreme to assume that there are not one mystery that can't be resolved logically.

Is it just me, or are there some 'skepics' who at least acknowledge that there are mysteries that defy logic? If so, great.

No, it really does explain all cases. Unless of course you think you have a case it doesn't explain? Y'know, because if you weren't just talking random bollocks then you'd be substantiating it with examples anchored in reality; right?
Jenos Ridan wrote:It is arrogant to the extreme to assume that there are not one mystery that can't be resolved logically.

Not so much; surely it's just logical to assume that? If you don't think logic can explain everything, then it's impossible to justify using it to explain anything. Y'know, that's just common sense; we either have a system that works, or we just have a complex yet futile system.

So essentially if you don't think logic can correctly decipher any mystery it's faced with; then you're denying the usefulness of logic altogether. Any questions?

And we disagree on this point. Fine, but then you try to write off an encounter when it happens. Closest I've ever had to such a thing is a feeling of being watched. Can't pin it down and generally I do just write it off as paranoia. Haven't since a ghost yet, but odds are, I will one day.

If you really convince your subconscious that you've seen a ghost, you might actually "see" one.

And that only disproves some cases, others await answers. Or do you just write those off as hoaxes? Because, if so, that means that the percentile of hoaxes are higher than calculated and science just made a big error in math. Sure, some can be explained by either hoax or trick of the mind, but not all. Not saying science is flawed, just that sometimes there just are gaps in the theory.
