Additionally, and while I agree that it wasn't TERRIBLY bad of AK deleting this, isn't there a rule that something should be posted in the mod squad forum before deleting a subject as controversial as this so that the mods can stand together after a decision has been reached.

I think the people of spamalot should be aloud to have their spamalot but i also agree with some of neph's points. The forum has turned into a teen chatroom.

i don't know what AK did, so i can't comment on that. but spamalot folks should know that a lot of people think that you have ruined the forums, or at least taken a fairly decent forum and turned it into inane teenage crap. whether AK did rite or not with his actions, i don't know, but something needs to be done about the pitiful state of the forums. you all need to be taught a lesson.

this is a community issue, and a business issue for lack. the growth of the site has stalled out, and i'd think one likely reason is the forums, which are the real personality of the site. they completely suck ass these days. not saying you guys shouldn't have a place to talk and as many threads as you want, but you ruin countless threads with spam. maybe if they take away your threads you will learn to stop with the irresponsible and immature behavior.

i would have to disagree. the "spamalot knights" say that the moderators arn't doing there job right. Deleting spam is part of there job.

Do you decline from posting and make snooty comments, or do you care enough about it to stay on it and try and improve it? my thoughts exactly. Social lounge was a good forum and spamalot was not making it worse. Just deleting it was not a good move.

The reason I might leave is because I don't I want to play on the site where the mods abuse their power so much. My experience with Spamalot was only positive and what AK done was unacceptable.

July....mods are annoyed by staches. Mods ban all of them for a day. Staches take anger on Twill.

May....mods are annoyed by spamalot. AK deletes their main topic. Spammers very angry at AK.

This may be different though, I think more people are on Spamalot's side.

I really don't get this at all. I thought iceman was a good mod. You wouldn't go demolish the Leaning Tower of Pisa, break down the great wall of china, burn down the Taj Mahal. Spamalot was conquer club's greatest landmark. Even more it was the favorite hang out of just about every premium account holder. I never talked there myself, but I feel the same as if someone decided to take the Statue of Liberty away.

To do this, it doesn't make sense. Nothing anyone could say would make me feel any different. I hope iceman gets the courage to try and defend himself, because if he doesn't say anything at all like he's done so far, he's just going to go down that much faster. The silence is just making me more sure that he has nothing to say in his defense and he knows he's screwed up royally.

I argee with most of the Spamalot side, except Spamalot isn't CC's greatest landmark. CC is of course. I mean why do people come here anyway? To play, (and others to play and post. )

Isn't the point that Nephilim and Red Bull (and even Rev_K to an extent) are missing the fact that AK wasn't just deleting spam, he was using his mod-powers to persecute a group of posters to whom he'd taken a personal dislike. If this were really 'spam clearance' then there'd be no 'longest thread', or 'song you are listening to' thread left standing right now. It's really simple guys, Spamalot isn't upset that the mods delete spam, and they're not trying to look like martyrs; but they're extremely upset that they were the victims of a heavy-handed and discriminatory moderator action.

So once again for those that don't get it: The reason people are upset about this is because it was quite clearly not AK doing his 'job'; but was in fact AK bullying a specific group of posters.

All of the arguments about spamming up other posts are irrelevant really. This isn't about purging spam there, and it's not about suspending persistent offenders (and not all Spamalot members were in the habit) who did such a thing. It's about the fact that one single thread was deleted by a mod throwing a tantrum; a thread that had no detrimental effect on the community.

People like Nephilim can whinge and whine all they like about spam in other threads; but the fact remains that zapping Spamalot wasn't intended to fix that problem, and deleting it won't ease the problem of spam in the future. If you honestly believe that it will, then why aren't you campaigning for the deletion of the other spam threads? Harping on about how this action will 'clean up the forums' is humbug; it's a weak and retrospective justification for AK's actions. He never intended to purge the SL2 of spam, he just wanted to upset and annoy a particular group of people because he didn't like them.
Are you actually aware of the chain of events that led up to the deletion? The real reason the thread got zapped is because AK was being a bully, and got upset when he was told that. This was not a spam purge, it was a vendetta. Seriously Neph, you can huff and puff all you like; but that's the truth of the matter.

So it's really simple: People are upset and concerned because they witnessed a moderator capriciously exercise his powers in order to fulfill a malicious private endeavour. This wasn't him doing his 'job', he's just using that excuse as a pathetic mask to try and dress-up his vindictive and discriminatory actions. Make no mistake, this wasn't a professional doing their job; it was a bully throwing a tantrum.

Actually, this is very true.

Spam isn't only SPamalot. The only top 10 poster in Spamalot is Hecter. Other people spam too, it's a whole thing of Spamming that has been in the forums. I'm not in Spamalot and I Spam. Other people do too. IT's not just Spamalot. If AK really wanted to stop spam, he'd temp-ban a LOT of people from the forums.

Nobody has heard from AK, maybe he had a good reason for deleting the thread. (Watching AK mod on this site, It wouldn't surprise me if he was on another power trip.) But, who knows, he hasn't said anything yet.

There was absolutely no warning at all actually. I think there's a pretty good account of what happened knocking around the first couple of pages of this thread somewhere though...

In a nutshell: He started trying to scare people it would be deleted. They told him that was annoying. He tried to make them jump through hoops before he'd stop threatening deletion. They told him that was more annoying. He tried to be chummy. They told him they weren't interested. Spamalot gone.

The majority of the spam was centralized in one spot, giving spammers a chance to spam as much as they like, freely and without persecution, and those who hated spam never ever needed to go there.

It was a win-win situation.
