Scaled points system

Postby twinfists on Mon May 14, 2007 12:54 pm

All too often players in a hopeless situation suicide to get out of games, or two weaker players gang up on a stronger one to such an extent that the formerly stronger player gets totally eliminated.

There is a solution!!

Make the points system scaled.

eg. in a four player game:
first player out loses [ (his score/winners score) * 30]
second player out loses [ (his score/winners score) * 20]
third player out loses [ (his score/winners score) * 10]
winner takes all the points

i think this would give an incentive to players in a weaker position to fight, since they would lose fewer points.

It may also stop the two on one ganging up, when down to three as one of the weaker players sees and advantage in taking out the other weaker player.

The multiplier (30,20,10) is for illustrative purposes, but you get the idea.

Thoughts?

Seems like it would encourage more conservative, less aggressive play. Might it not lead to more build games?

To an extent. Certainly true in no cards games. But in flat rate and escalating, it would encourage players to take each other out. Since even if you don't win, you lose less points if YOU aren't the next player to be eliminated.

I don't like the fact that, according to your voting options, if I agree with your idea, I must do so with the dorky amount of enthusiasm implied by the exclamation point. And to think you almost had me there.

another way you might get around your problem: don't play with cheapass losers who don't respect the game

The biggest problem I see is that when a player has a choice of players to take out, he will always take the one with the higher rank as more points will be gained that way. This would be very annoying for higher ranked players playing with lower ranks and would make people play with there own rank only even more than they do now.

In war, it doesn't matter if you're the first to die or the last to die, cos you're still dead and you've still lost. Besides, we have terminator for those who just want to kill the other players. Moreover, points losses in 6-player could be huge.

P.S. This should be in suggestions

All these points are completely valid but none as big as the exclamation point. That thing really has to go.

I apologise for the exclamation mark. It wasn't meant to be ironic when viewed with option 3 "twinfists, you're an idiot, it's a stupid idea!" but for some reason it didn't come up when i submitted the post.
