To be honest I consider several of the characters as equal considering intelligence. However Baelish has the advantage of being a lot more macchiavelistic.

Baelish is probably the smartest. Varys, Tywin, Grandma, Maergery and Tyrion are also worth considering as highly intelligent. Ned Stark was intelligent but too trusting. I mean there are several characters who have the potential to be smart and crafty but they tend to let their egoes get in the way or their honor.

agreed. I'd love to see baelish ending up on the throne. It makes me wonder what that would be like.

He is my pick (although some interesting takes on Jon Snow may make me rethink that - but I hate Snow with the fire of a thousand suns, so I'll stick with Baelish).

Wait.

Also, Baelish, but I just adore that guy.

The best person in my view is Stannis. Robert is probably fun to hang out with at a party, but Stannis is purely a good person. (ignoring that sexist bullshit with Melisandre the show-writers dumped into the story)

Like putting his daughter in a dungeon because she s got a physical problem, getting to kill his brother for the throne, getting to kill his nephew to try check if some spells work, ect ect..

Never liked this guy!

Awww, Stannis never put his daughter in the dungeon. She has a bit more than just a physical problem, she has Greyscale. It's often fatal. Stannis loves his daughter. Greyscale is also contagious. That's why she can't just roam around at will.

The pathology of greyscale isn't gotten into much detail, but in Volantis is a colony of sorts inhabited by the Stone men. People afflicted with greyscale. The leaders of Volantis, three times a year, send a galley to the Stone men to bring them food and such. Very often sailors of those galleys end up contracting grayscale themselves because greyscale is contagious under certain conditions.

No, you've got the wrong idea about Stannis and his daughter, he cares for her deeply. It saddens him because he believes that the little girl won't live a full life and the greyscale will eventually kill her at a young age.

Stannis is a hard nosed son of a bitch, true enough, but he is also an honorable man bound by duty and such. The Red Priestess seems to have corrupted him a bit, but I still haven't figured out for sure is she is ultimately evil or good. The jury is still out on that one.

In the beginning I was sort of rooting for Stannis because quite simply, he was the lawful heir to the throne, the others were just pretenders. But now I hate the guy, just consider what he did to Davos, he saves everyone on dragonstone by smuggling in food to them, yet Stannis cuts Davos fingers off for smuggling. What an ungrateful son of a bitch!

for me stannis has been a horrible character since the start, I've always hated his guts. Definitely one of my most hated characters for me.
The worse for me are the greyjoy father, lord bolton, his bastard, lord frey, stannis, melissandre, maestre pycelle and that s about it.. all others can be likeable to me (yeah i know i don t include jeoffrey just because he's the funniest man in the realm)

How delusional he is would be funny if it wasn't for how much I just want destroy his face, seriously the guy portraying him will have a hard time playing likeable characters after this.

I guess we can see difference between people that read the books and those that only watch the serie.
I also like Stannis, I mean, I dont want him as a friend, and I dont think he will ever be king, but he is really a man that believe in justice and duty. He dont do think because he want power of glory.
I guess the serie doesnt go enough into the details of the characters.

If I can go back on your idea of Jon Snow being the bastard of Rhaegar and Ned's sister.
If I understand well the story, she died very few time after being raped, I dont see how she could have a baby then. But maybe I missunderstood some part...

Wars take time. Especially taking down an established power. The time they spent openly waging war was enough for Ned to apparently find a woman and raise a bastard, it would have been enough time for Lyanna to have a child of her own and the timing seems to match up.

As far as Stannis, i never felt like he is a bad guy but he is very quick to sacrifice honor for power imo at least based on the show. There is evidence to show that these decisions do haunt him but he continually goes down a bad path. So as I said. Havent really gotten many good impressions from him.

Stannis is all about laws and justice. Just because a criminal does something good for you, even something that saves your life and the lives of those you command, doesn't make everything square (in the eyes of somebody who is all about laws and justice)

Let's say you're the smuggler, you risk your life to smuggle in food to the besieged island, you arrive there and save everyones lives, the least thing you'll be expecting is to be punished. -Hey, we're so grateful that you smuggled in food for us but, well you know smuggling is a crime so I have to take the fingers of your hand. But but I'll make you a knight for saving us!

You don't understand, you see the Onion Knight was given a choice by Stannis. This isn't gotten into by the series very well.

Davos started out a pirate and a smuggler. He was notorious, meaning he probably killed people when the need arises. He took it upon himself to help Stannis and his men because Davos knew what it was like to slowly starve to death. After the rebellion Stannis summoned Davos. Stannis gave Davos a choice, as a reward for saving all his men, Stannis offered Davos land and knighthood. But as a condition to his reward Davos would have to give up the first joint of each finger from his left hand as payment for his past crimes.
Davos himself agreed to the deal. He felt it was a fair and just deal. And so it was.

Davos grew up a poor nobody in Flea Bottom. During his pirate and smuggling days he married and had seven children. He felt paying with his finger joints to secure a future for his family a fine bargain.

Stannis after raising Davos, if ever he was confronted by anyone who had been wronged by Davos in the past and wanted justice done, Stannis could rightfully claim justice had been done, just look at Davos' hand he could tell them.

Imagine if someone had wronged you, a gang leader who one day broke into your house, stole all your stuff and maybe the gang raped your daughter. Maybe they even murder someone, like your neighbor who found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Later, the gang leader does something to help save the President. The President then elevates the gang leader to a high position as an adviser or something. You'd still want justice done for what he did to your family and friends, wouldn't you?

The Good doesn't wash away the Bad.

Oh, and I forgot, Davos insisted that Stannis himself wield the blade to cut off his finger joints. Which Stannis did.

Stannis, although harsh, is a fair lord:
  • When you read the books, they tell how many lords look down on Ser Davos for being of poor descent. Stannis on the other hand treats him as he would treat anybody else.
  • Even though Stannis was older than Renly, he obbeyed his brother king Robert when being sent to rule over Dragonstone, when Renly got larger and more fertile lands. Lord Stannis did what was asked of him as it was his duty.
  • His lack of humor also makes him look down on people who try to ridiculize others. He doesn't understand this behaviour and doesn't allow it.

Actually what makes him the way he is, is that he doesn't mix emotions with duty. He does what he has to, whatever his own desires may be.

In the book he has seven children. In the battle of blackwater Davos lost four sons. A fifth son was also in the battle, Devan. He survived as he was on Stannis' ship and survived the battle at the gate.
His other two children, Stannis and Steffon are 9 and 6 years old, respectively. They are at home with their mother in Cape Wrath. Devan is currently
show

The four sons who died were Dale, Allard, Matthos and Maric.

Matthos is the son you are familiar with from the TV series. In the series, Davos only has a single son, Matthos.

Matthos was Stannis' squire in the TV series, as well as Stannis' scribe and a crewman on Davos ship, Black Betha. In the TV series Davos has only one son, Matthos who died in the Blackwater. If Davos has any daughters back home at Cape Wrath, they are not mentioned in the series.

I don t know how the screewriters can safely change stuff in the story that could have importance next. I guess it means that jrr martin has either told them it would have no incidence, either he agreed not to give any relevance to the character in his next books. Like for bookreaders you know that robb s wife will have no incidence as she was killed in the show. The show kind of gives you spoilers on who is irrelevant for the rest of the books.

I might disagree with you on that, but agree that lady Jeyne Westerling's plot has ended (she is SO not pregnant.) The writers of the hit TV show "Game of Thrones" are adapting the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels to television. They've made a bunch - though really, incredibly few - changes from the novels to make the show work better on TV, and a few I totally don't understand (y u no show the Battle of the Fist, HBO? it's in a blizzard, so you wouldn't even need to do a whole lot of CGI because of visibility) and while yeah, maybe maybe it's hinted Strong Belwas won't be king in ASOIAF because he's not in GoT, I would put more stock in characters being written out or combined to others due to concerns about budgeting than Martin trying to rewrite ASOIAF.
