What are your favorite maps and why?

Postby ericwdhs on Sun May 06, 2007 10:02 pm

I just want to know what maps people like most here and why they are popular. (It helps when you are designing maps. :D)

Well judging from the current active maps.

45 Pages
- Classic
Because it is classic.
17 Pages
- World 2.1
Because it is the only really big map and is similar to classic.
6 Pages
- British Isles
- Middle Earth
British Isles because of the similar to classic game play and the popularity of the location among players.
Middle Earth because it is freaking Lord of the Rings and most internet nerds like lord of the rings. I mean, people actually play Lord of the Rings online, and that game is horrible.
5 Pages
- Senate
- Europe
- USA
Senate because it is new, I really can't think of any other reason. People seem to not like the game play judging from the recent board complaints because it is too symmetrical.
Europe because it is Europe.
USA because it is USA.
4 Pages
- King of the Mountain
- North America
King of the Mountain probably because it is just so darn nifty. The only really popular abstract map.
North America because of the size most likely and again many players from the location.

So right now you need to have either a really popular location or massive size it seems to me. The innovativeness of WidowMakers and his creations is hard to emulate, but you might get lucky with an abstract map.

I like the original world map. just because of how perfect it is.
I like the king of the towers map. good mix of continents and also a nice twist with the heli-pads,same with chinese checkers
I like US senate, multiple continets worth similar amounts.

CCU is fun

I like Classic, Britain and Europe because I can identify with them and because they contain a few peninsulas (easy to defend ;))

I don't like non-geographical maps, or Africa and World 2.1 since games on those two seem to drag out far too long.

I prefer King of the mountains, Discworld, chinese checkers and middle earth. I just like the layout, and it might have something to do with me being somewhat better at those maps then the other ones. ¬_¬

Is that sarcasm?

Personally, I love Europe, Middle Earth and Discworld because I win a lot on them. Also like Classic, because it is Classic, and World 2.1, because the gameplay is so different

so far I'm liking Asia, I like the great wall of china, and seems challenging to me. But wow, I'm starting to play Africa with no cards right now and man, it's going to be a tough battle. I'm still a newbie, won one out of four games, man I love this site. Gonna probably opt to become Premium soon. :P

Hmm... the Africa map looks fun but I wouldn't ever spend any of my 4 valuable game slots on it unless it were an RT game. Crossword is okay but something about it doesn't feel right.

Damn, 30 rounds, wow. I'm still waiting for my second turn but I could just tell this could be an epic one. Hah I just noticed I lost my 5th game so now I'm private, yeah! Now if I could only win Africa...

It's in the 100000s too. I wonder if it's the oldest game still going. That would be something. I would hate to be stuck in that game. If I had a premium account though I guess it wouldn't matter so much.

I've only completed 2 games. I won one (Ancient Greece) and lost the other (CCU). I have a good chance of winning in another one I'm in but the other 3 I'll probably lose.
