Mafia games

ok, so I guess you could say I'm a n00b, because even though a post around a bit, I'm still fairly new to the site, and I have no idea what a mafia game is. Can someone please explain what they are? I'm thouroughly interested, and i see them everywhere on the Social Lounge II.
