CC has reached the point where a thread can be of no concern to he who began it?

That's deep.

Well, it IS True...Mr Changsa has centred himself to block out ALL interaction from the other ranks...with both arms now lopped, and in a frency of self=gratification, mr Changsa is at peace...Gold! Gold! Gold! for London...and a major acting as befits his rank rank!!!

Oh look at that I just identified what CC is using far less words than you.

What a negative conception of CC! Yours is dark, dark world.

There was a fun post about CC players having Victim Mentality at times, but I think in general this idea speaks more to those who compete in activities of any kind.

Mr Chang, what is your take on what I like to call the "random surge" i.e. where one normally hovers around mid major but at a certain time one has few 6-8 man games end at the same time where they become victorious and experience a couple hundred point bump, this is also a common sight when the battle royals are being played. If I can effortlessly maintain maintain my rank if I hit colonel in the same fashion that I do with major, what does that scenario present?

I'm currently considering how a chap enjoys his frenzy of self-gratification after having chopped both his arms off. If we accept that both amputations (slowly sliced with a rusty pen knife with only a few shots of whiskey for the pain naturally...well, I AM a major after all) have been done around the elbow, where would one PUT said appendages? I feel that the most practical recourse would be to actively thrust into one of them, while attempting some sort of self-buggering with the other. This would be undeniably tricky, but no doubt satisfying for a man who has learned to dominate the CC World.

I would say that having a surge up to colonel and then maintaining it comfortably would suggest the player is a true colonel. Usually, such players DO drop back over time. If he doesn't (without changing his gaming style and thus becoming a GRASPING colonel) then one has to suppose he is where he should be. Frankly, there is nothing wrong with winning a few 8 mans to increase score. It needs skill to win such games.

heh.. this is a funny thread... I've always thought of major as the "starting point".. like if I was a multi, I would expect to start at major, and be shocked to be a private or so after the "?" disappeared....lol.. yea... major is a good rank to be... no pressure... noob high rankers, and most will think you're a good player... it's fun

It is amusing to see how the majors rush out wagging their tails to follow one of their number who appears capable of rational argument. It's balderdash and piffle of course. Are we seriously supposed to believe that the status-obsessed Mr C wouldn't be playing at a higher rank if he could?

1. I don't care about points, I just need to make sure I am playing for 20 points each time or I will drop rank. I like to imagine, in flagrant violation of the truth, that guys like Cof or mc have to play with stripers to maintain their rank.

2. Because major is the lowest rank with a 500 point spread, it's full to the brim with players, 1100 of them, nearly 10% of CC. There are so many of us in fact that by sheer force of numbers we've coerced the CC community into accepting our self-inflated opinion that being a major means you are a good player. Clever eh?

3. Did I mention that i dont care about points? I can just about keep to major and still throw in one or two games I haven't played before. Neat.

4. If you play games where the purpose is to bore the opposition to death it's really important not to take on brigs or generals as they typically have greater powers of concentration than you do.

5. Some of CC's most widely ignored posters have held the highest ranks - master fenrir, king_herpes, everyone agrees they are really dull.

6. I dont care about rank and because I don't care about rank I'm going to pretend there arent clans like tofu and kort who regularly field teams with multiple generals and brigs, with some colonels thrown in to make up the numbers.

7. Did I mention that points dont matter to me? But Ive found i can ranch some settings and that makes up for all the bruises to my ego by getting good trips scores that I write down in the little black book where I also record my one-handed nighttime escapades!

8. Another way of feeling good about myself is that i play against other low ranks - so my EQ rating looks great!

9. I don't care about rank but once or twice I've got some good dice early on and actually beaten some brigs and generals! Yaayyyy!

10. Really really honestly truly i dont envy the perfectionism of proper high ranks who want to win every game they play and aim at playing every turn well. Really.

Let me let you into a little secret, Laughing Cavalier. While I did quite easily make it up to about 2900 (in well under 200 games), and I did it playing standard, dubs, trips, 8 man dubs (and this is a record you cannot deny), I had the same concerns then that I write of now. I realised that my gaming would be limited to classic trips, because my other forms would be net point-losers..and I didn't know how to play anything else. That is the shocking truth. I felt disgusted by the position, for while I hadn't yet formulated these concepts of GRASPING and TRUE ranks I knew that my position was false. I could have stayed up there and I could have gone past 3000, but I would have been the worst kind of GRASPING player...protecting his points on one style and one map.

I think this is an issue with rising so fast. As I was doing it I had no idea that my favourite game (standard 8 man public) would become unplayable. So there I was with a limited understanding of team games and my main form (that basically got me that score) no longer an option.

So I did the only honourable thing.

I dropped my rank on Doodle.

Of course that was back in 2009. I am a much better player now. But I still consider myself a TRUE major. I really do...and that is the entire point of this thread. Of course I could play at colonel if i wanted to, but I would be a GRASPING colonel. For I would have to limit my natural gaming once I got much past 2600. I could limit it all the way to 3000 (and many have), but I would be a fake.

So, I think you realise that your original point - that I couldn't hold a colonel rank - is ridiculous. If I did it in my first 150 games I could do it now. You missed the point of this thread...which is about the manner in which you do it.

Some have the ability to play whatever they want and keep a hat. Some even can hold the brigadier rank. Maybe the very, very best can even be a general. I have never claimed to be so good. As you well know I much prefer writing about this game than playing it. I am a TRUE major and say so quite happily.

if it were a pair of Crossed sabers (in scabbards) it would indicate US Cavalry.
but alas, our major rank here has but one sword... and one only...

It is rather like the difference between japanese and truly filthy german porn. Yours would no doubt get you some strange looks in polite society, but mine would surely end in excecution in most countries with any sense of decency at all.

Also, mine is more amusing...

haha... interesting commentary by you to be sure... I can only speak for myself, I've been fairly high up in score, but have long since given up on caring what my score is... it's fun to just join whatever and against whoever without thought to the outcome... anyone who plays with/against me more that once or twice realizes quickly that I couldn't care less about points.. but it is nice staying above 2000 for a number of reasons...
