Do spoils run out?

Postby the communicator on Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:56 am

Can some one answer for me how spoils are awarded. I understand why and under what conditions (capture a teritory). What I want to know is this, Are spoils treated like a "deck of cards" where once a player has that "spoil" no one else can have it. Also do the spoils get put back in the "deck" after played either (A) emediatly (B) after all spoils have been given out or (C) never?

Since you already know how to get spoils, i will anwser the remainder of your questions.

first off, spoils never run out.
The deck of spoils is as large as the amount of territories.
If the total amount of spoils exceed the total amount of territories available, then spoils can be "doubled"

this means that if everybody has spoils, and you turn some in and then draw new spoils, the likelyhood of you drawing the same spoils is bigger.
it means that in a small map like doodle earth with e.g. 8 players, you could even end up with 3 the same spoils or more. on a very large map with more territs then spoils for all players (in that particular game) combined, you will never have the same spoils doubled in your hand, but if you use it, you could draw it again.

this is good to know for nuclear, and any other spoil setting.

anything else i can help you with?

So only on maps with less then 40 regions 2 or more players can have the same Spoil at the same time (for games with less then 8 players this is lower; 7 players: less then 35 regions; 6 players --> less then 30 regions etc.).
And for the 2nd question the answer is (A). So you can get any region-Spoil available, no matter if it has been handed out before or not. And by the way the same region-Spoil doesn't have to be the same colour!

Thanks for the help. I am playing a nuclear game and wasn't sure if it was safe to leave my armies on a territory that had already had its spoil played.

It is only safe if you keep your troops on a region which spoil you have yourself (or your partner in a team game) and if the total number of spoils has never has been larger then the total number of regions.

It is probably safer than leaving them elsewhere. Just because you know where 1 of the potentially doubled cards is (as opposed to knowing none on another territ. Also, if the spoils count drops back down, that card won't be awarded again until spoils creep back up. Note that the last sentence is not the same as saying that there's not a potential double for your card out there somewhere already, if the conditions have been met.

Forza meant that if you are in control of dropping the nuclear spoil, (and the territs are more then the amount of persons x 5) then your territory cannot be bombed by someone else. as long as you don't do it yourself, you are quite safe.
