A question about mafia

Postby Huckleberryhound on Fri Apr 20, 2007 11:14 pm

Being new to it, and not wanting to ask this in game, i thought i'd start a thread...thanks in advance for your reply.

What are you supposed to talk about when the game starts ?

The only game i've played in seems to just be accusations, and counter asccusations.

Is the game mod supposed to lead the the conversation like a roleplaying thing, or is it a free for all ?

That's a good start. Unless the mod is Fircoal, the mod does not interact with the players much.

to quote myself in another thread...."I find this lack of topic to talk about strange. It's like (the reality show) big Brother without the stupid games, the Blatantly camp Gays, and the chance of nudity"

Yes, that's usually what happens. And as Pancake said, my games are an exception. Though I don't reveal any clues except in the game it would be time to. I like being a mod that talks with the town.

Mafia is a game of paranoia. So everyone accuses everyone else. Your job is to figure out, based on who accuses whom when, who is scum.

Actually, the important bit is the voting record, generally. Scum want to manipulate the town into killing themselves, so people you see voting for townies are often scum. Of course, the scum know that jumping on a townie vote bandwagon is a scumtell, so they'll try to trick you. So, the whole game devolves into how well you can get a read on your fellows based on what they say and do.

The start of the game is the toughest, though, since no one has any information. The votes/lynches on day one tend to be random.

I genuinely thought it was a roll playing thing, i mean what with each mafia game being given a scenario. But it seems that the scenario has very little to do with the game itself.

ACtually
1/4 say no lynch, usually the noobs.
1/4 say random votes, usually the people who want to start it.
1/8 don't vote
3/8 vote Fircoal
