dominant player dragging out a game...what to do?

Postby Colossus on Tue Apr 17, 2007 3:16 pm

Hey all, I'm in a World 2.1 game that has been going on for nearly a month now. Pink has been in a clearly dominant position for many rounds and seems to be hell-bent on dragging the game out. Game #308001. I've suggested in game chat that he just get on with eliminating opponents, as he clearly has the game in hand (I asked nicely, I thought). He responded with snide remarks and continues to drag the game on and on. If he had focused on eliminating the remaining players, all of whom are in incredibly weak positions, the game would have been over four or five rounds ago. In addition, the dominant player takes no more than a turn per day or so, and has even deadbeated at least once. This is frustrating the hell out of me  , because I just want the game to end. I don't want to deadbeat because that's not fair to the other two weak players in the game. Obviously asking him to move things along didn't work, so asking again will do no good. Have others faced this kind of situation? Is this guy just incapable of finishing the job? Is he being a jackass or am I just being retarded and impatient?

(I'm sure several of you spamming types will ignore everything but that last question and confirm my retardation. Allow me to thank you in advance.)

Negative Feedback, and thanks for adding to my ignore list.

EDIT: Actually this is probably the best thing to do in response. A lot of people will probably add Ericthered to their ignore lists like I did.
Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.

I agree with the above. However, if I had a premium account and could play unlimited games like you, I'd probably not care that much until after a very long time.

The great thing about this game is that you really cant force anyone to attack you. You might think he has the game in hand. He might just be extremely conservative. In either case. Thats what makes this game so great.

I dont have premium so it would bug me tho. Not much you can do except for add your men and try to fight back I guess.

PS: what does the ignore list do? Not put you in games with that person?

Can you all go for an alliance and try to crush him?

Having said that just looked at the game and yes he is dominant... but his strategy is fairly sound... he's winning the war of attrition and has his power bases heavily defended against you... if he went for kills then he might weaken his defences and let someone in - and that could possibly lose him the game...

What a crybaby. EricTheRed is doing nothing wrong and he's not dragging out the game. I would say that if he followed your advice the game would go on forever. He's playing a smart game and his strategy is strong. Nothing wrong with it at all.

In fact, while some who haven't looked at the game are adding him to their ignore list, I'm adding you to mine. I don't like to play with idiots.

erm i see nothing wrong with the game. "dragging the game out" would be more like him leaving everyone else with 4 or 5 countries and just attacking enough to keep everyone else in check. seriously you're making it sound much worse than it actually is.

He's just being extremly careful, so in case he gets bad rolls, he'll have troops spare, and for the time being he's breaking continent bonuses from others. I see nothing wrong there.

Pink is doing a good job. Every player in there is after him...he goes to quick and its over...though...he can go for it any time he wants now...almost no way to lose it...personally Id start with red :D

It's not an escalating game, so there would be chances of getting bad rolls and not managing to replace his losses.

Tell Pink that you'll devote all your reinforcements to beating up on Yellow if he'll promise to focus on eliminating you.

In world point 2.0...its all about the territories...if he branches out in every direction...the amount that the other players can come back at him gets smaller every time...but theres nothing wrong with playing it safe either...

He's just being conservitive, I once had all of Africa and the middle east and I still didn't attack anyone for a long time because I wanted to build more armies, but he was rude though.

In this game I think the dominant player is just being conservative.

If you want to see a game in which the dominant player is definitely dragging out the game take a look at 323797.

Of course in that game there are, shall we say, extenuating circumstances...

actually the other player appears to be enjoying the experience.

I think that you should pool all your armies and attack until you are a string of 1s EVERY turn. I would also accompany all turns with a game chat that said "AAAAAAAAAAAIGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRGHH!" or some other sort of suicide death noise. Also, it might be helpful to keep writing annoying haikus in the game chat. If you are so anxious to get out of the game, then these suggestions would make the whole thing more fun. Another thought . . . think up great insults, and use the Google translator to translate them into Polish or Korean. Then cut and paste into the game chat. See? It's easy!
