Showing Cards Held

Postby neddiedrow on Sun Apr 15, 2007 3:28 pm

I think this takes another factor that divides a skilled player from the average out and gives it, unfairly, to the masses. Suddenly, it is no longer a legitimate tactic to horde cards... fair enough for Escalating games, but this also impacts the much more reasonable Flat Rate games...

I just don't believe that in Flat Rate games it should show your card count to everybody playing - it should require some attention to know who has what.

Opinions?

u could get card counters before. it was an advantage to people who could instal the scripts. also u can always go back and count through the log... i think its a good idea as it balances things up and gives people using scripts less of an advantage

I think it is great. I can't use Greasemonkey everytime because I am at a different comp. Now that won't matter!

plus i'm pretty sure that in the original risk rules you had to tell people how many cards you had if they asked

there are a lot of people that didn't know about the script(like me) or people that didn't think about going back and counting. I did a couple times but it took awhile. I liked it better when it wasn't right there in front of you. When you either had to work to find out the how many cards people had or you had to plan your stragety so that it didn't matter how many cards they had. I think it should be an option in with the type of games, but that's just my opinion.

But I have a script that can do it for me. you can't take that off my screen. that game type would be useless since a devoted player would just count as the game progressed, or use a script.

PLEASE NEVER ADD THAT IN A UPDATE LACK!!!

Wair, you actually consider scripted aids to the game fair and logical? They simply exploit unprotected data to give you an edge your own attention should provide.

I think they are fair since everyone should have them. All the top players that I know say download it and you will see a boost in your game winning ability. All the information is already on the board, it just organizes it for you. If it showed what color my opponents cards were that would be wrong. If it announced when they had a set that would be wrong. It just saves time!

When you play risk in person, you're supposed to have all of your cards in view anyway, aren't you?

I played a Flat Rate game that lasted 71 turn. If this upgrade was on then, it would same me a lot of time. So bravo Lack, for making this site even better. =D>
As for the claim that ability to count cards is the difference between a good player and a bad player, hmmmm....Maybe, on a pre-shool level.

I agree, if that's what gives you an edge on your opponents they must be pretty bad

Now if lack would just throw in a country count, I'd have no more use for scripts...

Seriously, if you wanted to know how many cards another player has you just checked how long since he last played a set, that way you got a pretty good idea of what to expect. Count back to the set before that and you would usually know for sure.

Not so easy, the player could have had 3, 4, or 5 cards when he last played a set, leaving him with 0, 1, or 2 cards. So your estimate is good plus or minus two cards. Then what if the player of interest eliminated another player and inherited his cards. The script is looking like a pretty good deal to me right about now.
Cheers,

That's why I said "a pretty good idea" and that one could count back two sets to get it more precise, tahiti.
