New forum: Strategies and Tips

Postby dolemite on Fri Apr 13, 2007 8:27 pm

I think a forum geared towards helping people play better would be a good idea. You could sticky all the topics with basic strategies. People could ask tactical questions. If a log was ever added to games, strategies for specific games could be discussed.

It's called general discussion. Visit it. It's a cool place. And it's got all of this stuff in it, and more.

I've been there. While there is some strategical discussion, there is a whole lot of other stuff going on, and anything tactical quickly scrolls off the page. In a game of strategy, I don't think it's too far-fetched to think a strategy forum is appropriate.

The simple fact that all of the strategy threads quickly fall of the page is evidence enough that a whole forum for it would be unused.

I just did a quick, unscientific check of that forum. Of the top ten posts, three were loosely related to strategy. Of those three, two were discussions that related more to game design and player courtesy, rather than actual strategy. The one pure strategy post out of the top ten had some great links posted by Lack, but it will quickly be lost to new posts. If there was a strategy forum- something like that would be stickied.

No, it's evidence that a general forum covers a lot more than just strategy (as it should). A lot of the focus of these forums seems to be trash talking and flaming individuals, but a strategy forum might refocus some of those energies towards what the game is actually about.

Look, if a thread falls off the page, then the people must have stopped caring about it, so they stopped posting. And if somebody did care about it a lot, then they would go and resurect it. Besides, maybe it'll be made into a sub-forum when lack gets around to all that sorta stuff.

well i kinda agree... the strategy would act as a repository of strategy related threads, rather an hunting and pecking through the GD.

but then im not so sure what exactly the GD would be for then without strategy.

that one by lack is stickied so will never slip off the page. dont worry bout that one  also if strategy threads were that important as to have a whole forum i agree with hecter that it wudnt be needed as the threads are lost quickly.

i think strategy threads are very important, especially for people looking for them. however, no matter how important they are, they get pushed down by dugcarr or simtom threads which attract more posters/trolls. trolls stay out of the strategy threads so they fall off the page.

I think a good compromise would be to have a strategy THREAD that is stickied and locked and a mod can just throw all the other strategy thread link in there once a week or something.
