Ok, this is what I had at the time. Understand that this is all just sketched in my head and the border laid our are minimal based on how the geography should look. When I say something "borders" there could be additional interstate borders depending on the shapes of the territories and what works best.
Also, this is designed as a smaller map for simplicity's sake; this is as large as I felt you could make it while still keeping the six states as the primary bonuses. As it stands, Massachusetts is probably too big and would never be held. I'd have no problem greatly increasing the size of the map, adding territories, and creating more bonuses, with the states being super-bonuses (sort of like Nordic Countries). Eastern and Western Mass, purely for gameplay purposes, might be a necessity, in fact.
With all that said, this is what I had sketched out at the time:
MAINE BONUS (6 territories)
Aroostook
Eastport
Sugarloaf
Kennebunkport
Portland
Augusta (capital)
Maine would consist of Arrostook in the upper north, bordered by Eastport to the east and south and Sugarloaf to the west. Augusta would be in the central(ish) part of the state, with Portland just south of that (to the west of Eastport) and Kennebunkport to the southwest of Portland (with Sugarloaf bordering it to the north). Sugarloaf and Kennebunkport would border the New Hampshire region.
NEW HAMPSHIRE BONUS (7 regions)
Portsmouth
Nashua
Keene
Manchester
Concord (capital)
Hanover
North Conway
New Hampshire would consist of Portsmouth-Nashua-Keene bordering each other in the south from east-to-west (all touching Massachusetts, with Portsmouth bordering Kennebunkport in Maine). Manchester would be just above those three (border to be worked out). Concord would be central. Hanover would be to the west, with Coos taking up the northern portion of the state (bordering Sugarloaf in Maine).
VERMONT BONUS (5 regions)
St. Johnsbury
Burlington
Montpelier (capital)
Rutland
Brattleboro
Vermont would consist of Brattleboro in the south, which would border Massachusetts (and Keene in New Hampshire). Rutland would be above and to the west, but Monpelier would also be adjacent in the central area. Burlington would be a remote territory in the northwest, while St. Johnsbury would border Coos and/or Hanover in New Hampshire, depending upon impassables.
MASSACHUSETTS BONUS (9 regions)
Amherst
Springfield
Worcester
Lowell
Gloucester
Boston (capital)
New Bedford
Hyannis
Islands
Massachusetts would consist of Amherst in the northwest of the state (bordering Brattleboro in Vermont and Keene in New Hampshire) and Springfield in the southwest. Both would converge with Worcester in the central part of the state, with borders drawn to maximize gameplay. Lowell would also border Worcester and Amherst in the north-central and would border Nashua in New Hampshire. New Bedford would be in the southeast, bordering Worcester and Boston and Hyannis, which would be the name of the Cape Cod territory. Boston would be in its correct geographical location and Gloucester would be on the North Shore, bordering Portsmouth in New Hampshire. Islands would be connected to Hyannis.
RHODE ISLAND BONUS (3 regions)
Providence (capital)
Newport
Westerly
Providence would be the northern portion of the state, touching both Springfield and New Bedford in Massachusetts. Newport would be the southeast, bordering New Bedford and having a connection to the Islands. Westerly would be the southwest portion of the state, bordering Connecticut.
CONNECTICUT BONUS (5 regions)
Storrs
Hartford (capital)
New London
New Haven
Stamford
Storrs would be the northeast portion of the state, bordering Providence and Springfield. Hartford would start in the center of the state and encompass the entire northwest (bordering Springfield). New London would be the southeast portion of the state, bordering Westerly. New Haven and Stamford would be interior territories
IMPASSABLES TO WORK IN:
Forest in interior northern Maine
White Mountains in New Hampshire
Green Mountains in Vermont
Connecticut River with bridge crossings
ADDITIONAL CONNECTIONS NOT MENTIONED ABOVE
Gloucester, MA to Portland, ME (sea route)
