Is this allowed?

Postby IcePack on Fri Jul 22, 2011 5:14 pm

Im curious what the official answer to this question is.

I've seen quite a few people claim "my [brother/wife/son/pet dog] watched me play CC for a long time, learned the maps, settings, and how to play". That person then goes on to set up an accout after "watching" the other account, and win vs experienced players on complicated maps from the get go.

So can I have someone sign into my account (different IP, non-registered user) watch me play my turns (strictly NEVER playing any of my turns. Just watching me play maps, see communication settings etc).

Then later, sign up for their own account and play THEIR first game? Same situation, but due to proximity they can't "look over my shoulder".

This game isn't that hard.. not sure it's proof of anything if someone hits the ground running.

no, you cannot let anybody get acces to your account for whatever reason, with the exception of the allowed babysitting. So someone logging in on your account would still constitute a breach of the siterules just as it would if you allow someone else to play games on your account.

So players who have family watching them play also breech the rules, or just waived due to proximity?

Well, let's break it down. The Community Guidelines state:

Being on another player's account for ANY reasons other than taking turns when they are in danger of missing a turn, or posting to necessary Tournament or Clan related public forum topics, is not allowed. Abuse of this privilege can be considered account sharing and could result in a Bust for both accounts.

However, the context of the rule makes it clear that this was written with other site members in mind (this is also the only time Account sharing is mentioned in the Community Guidelines). When it comes to non-members playing on member's accounts, there don't appear to be any rules set for this. I've actually, recently, brought up someone that had a family member that didn't have an account on CC taking turns, and it was deemed that this is really hard to monitor (for obvious reasons). So, if the user 'watching' the one account came onto the site and then kept getting on the original account, this would breach the Account Sharing rule. As long as the account doesn't get out of hand, I doubt there is much that the C&A team can do to prevent/stop this. It's an area that I'm not sure has gotten that much discussion in the past. Hope this helps, IcePack!

if family members watch you play it is usually on the same computer. like my kid his first 5 games i sat over him and told him how to play it is really no different to what the society of cooks do.

Sharing the account with them and them watching you play on the monitor are 2 different things. However when you start cussing and all, i do suggest you sent your kids out of the room ;-)
But no, CC does not regulate what happens outside of the screen.

so icepack, you could just do a screen-sharing of your screen, never letting anyone access your account but they could still watch whatever is going on on yyour screen.. problem solved no rules violated...

agreed, not sure if thats a handy solution, but it would be okay. Hell more cc vids on youtube would also be great i think. If anybody would be serious about making a training video, please contact the entertainment team

That's a great solution, thanks! ;) I half wanted to hear the discussion and other half to hear the official answer.

A training video would be interesting....if by mid 2012 this has not been accomplished I might take a stab @ it. However I have to many projects between now & then.

Cheers,

Jesus you are a dutz (if thats how its spelled i dont know and forgive me if im wrong) but seriously there are so many major flaws with your argument here and you are not qualified to give us an official answer so get andy or KA in here and they will give us one. Either way rds comes in here and gives a very logical response to the question and then you still go around acting as if your answer is right when you have nothing to back it up but your opinions. I see no reason why this would be against the rules, it is in effect the same as someone watching over his shoulder from his house. Beyond that it in no way harms the site (as long as this watching user doesnt play at all) and can only help them by attracting a new member and thus i doubt if andy or KA come in there they will say that it is against the rules. It definitely isnt against any written rules as rds previously pointed out.

Oh and why would a training video go to the entertainment team when it surely have a better fit in the strategy forms or society of the cooks.

my kids love it when i play CC.

one sits on my shoulders and the other uses the mouse to click the dropdowns. they are very impressed with dropdowns. one day they might be impressed by the game.

my eldest also likes the tournaments i run. he helps to update the bracket over at challonge.com by manning the keyboard while i call out the results from overnight.

Because they then can give more public or cc notice to it.

haha yeah give it to people who already know how to play...?

fact remains that if that were to be made it would have way more use in strategy or society of the cooks

if you use TeamViewer or something simular, you can log in on someone elses computer from a distance (if you both have teamviewer and know each others Teamviewer password, obviously) that way, you can watch someone elses computer screen, also when someone is playing conquerclub or something.

since you're technically not logging in to CC for someone else, i believe this is allowed.
