Blind Feedback

Postby IronE.GLE on Fri Apr 06, 2007 6:41 am

I think having a blind feedback system would be a good way to get rid of retaliatory negative feedback. One would simply not be able to view feedback left by other players until they submit feedback for that player. No more changing feedback would be allowed, but a response to neutral or negative feedback would still be allowed.

One other thing I might suggest is having a box to check for challenging the validity of negative feedback left for you. IMO, feedback is much more important than points.

What say you?

Make it a choice. That would make sense.

I'm confused. So what if that person never returned feedback? then the person that used the blind feedback wouldn't get their feedback viewed, if that made any sense.

So generally speaking, you can't see your own feedback profile.

That would take care of retaliatory negatives and positives. But it would also take away the chance to respond publicly and defend yourself.

Could we get somehow get the best of both worlds?

It won't solve people leaving retaliatory negatives after the next game they play with you though. Yes, that already happens.

Eh? We already have a limit of one per type per game :?

Anyways, forget about the "you can see it when you leave feedback" part. Let's say we always keep it blind... can we work with that idea?

i think we still need the chance to reply to feedback, and also see if it is fair, if it was always blinf you would never know if it was retaliatory and therefore wouldnt report it. so i think there should be a compromise of some sort. ill leave it down to you intelligent people (not to mention the fact that you run the site) to decide exactly what happens..........

hang on just realised there couldnt be retaliatory feedback, however it would be fairly easy to find out your feedback, as other players must be able to see it (or there is no point in feedback at all) so if you know any other player reasanably well it would be easy to find out.......... hmmmmmm

anyways, i dont mind it as it is, i just hear its alot of work for the moderators?

Or just make an option for feedback to be left anonymously...

but then you could leave neg feedback for absolutely no reason and it would never be possible to dispute the worthiness of the feedback, as in order to be anonymous the game number could not be shown either....... (then it would be between a max of 5 people and probably quite easy to discover who left it)

What I'm saying is that Player A leaves negative feedback for Player B. Nobody can see the feedback until Player B leaves feedback (of any kind) for Player A.

Maybe a feedback lock for people who abuse feedback would be more appropriate?

How about being able to leave negative feedback in the form of an anonymous comment, but that not affect the actual score?
In other words, I give Joe a negative comment, but he can't see my name. In return, it doesn't affect his actual feedback score.

This still has the potential for abusive comments to be left, but doesn't affect the score.

Regarding the lock, we've already got such a thing in place, for people who abuse it.

I think the best way would be to allow the option of leaving anonymous feedback, but be sure that the mods can see who left it. That way it won't get abused since the mods will know who to punish, but the secrecy of the feedback is still virtually intact.

(not sure how easily it could be programmed though)

Feedback isnt meant to just be left and done with...its a tool to help players get better, make friends...spot possible cheaters, abusers etc.

So though the system isnt perfect, it is the ability to change them that makes it work. Ive left a few negs in here, but none stand. Ive left some after people left them for me too, but not as retalitory...just to resolve the situation...which in all cases, I have been able to do...some turned into positives simply because of the resolution. Sometimes it does take a good dispute to resolve something. And this is how the feedback system helps the site.

The positives are a nice way to convey to a player that they are helping..etc. there is of course a reciprocating effect...but spreading positives is never a bad thing...

but with negatives, they should only be used when necessary...and one to hopefully curtail the players action and let them know its not welcomed...or two as a warning to others who dont enjoy playing particular types of people...

Some leave negs trivially, others never do...but I dont think anyone questions that without them...there would be far more complaints in games abuse etc, and complaints filed to the mods...

am I on topic here still? I had a point I thought...

I think it was that the ability to edit, and delete is the most important part of these....this game like volleyball is a blame game...when someone wins...its because someone messed up...simple as that...so tempers can flare...and the excitement of the game turns into a disagreement...but often after the game is past...both players realize it wasnt that big a deal..so they patch it up... delete the negatives...and move on...at least sometimes

The problem is that people are afraid to give negative feedback in fear of receiving one back. There is a rule against retaliatory feedback, but its usually possible to find something against someone that will make the neg feedback stick.

This way the people who normally wouldn't leave feedback, would be much more willing to, knowing that there is no chance of retaliation.
