Tournament Finder -- Addition

Postby rdsrds2120 on Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:44 pm

Concise description:
  • Include Tournaments that you are also currently participating in in the Tournament Dropdown Box. As of now, it only displays tournaments you are hosting. Every now and then, it would be nice to easily reference a tournament to see where the competition stands, why a round hasn't started, etc.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • An improvement of an already existing feature, and it would save time for searching for these specific tournaments in the same way it has helped TO's save time finding the tournaments they have privileges for.

A good idea, but it would have to take 1 of 2 routes, both of which would have to be coded (aka probably takes longer):

1) The player (or organizer, but bleh on the extra work) auto-enrolls themselves to being a participant in the tournament in order to view the drop-down.

2) Lack hard codes the site to allow players who have already joined a game with that tournament title to be able to see the drop down. The obvious downside is that there is currently no other way for the site/database to know who is in that tournament to see it immediately when it starts.

Has there ever been a suggestion to have a site-implemented tournament enrollment feature? This would also make it easier on TO's to figure out who's playing and to assign matches, although it sounds like a lot of work.

Number one could be easy. From threads I've seen, most players get put up in a list. This list could be copied/pasted into a box that takes each player on a line and registers to them as players in that tournament (similarly on how I copy paste my list to mass PM the players instead of adding them one by one).

qwert, why do you not listen? Lack stated that even with only including Ongoing tournament, the drop down list was too long and took up too much extra load time to keep it on the page. It doesn't matter how much support something has if lack thinks the suggestion causes the site to run slower than necessary. This is HIS site, not yours. Why don't you actually contribute to this suggestion instead of spamming up someone else's thread with your complaints?

qwert, please do not continue posting if what you have to contribute is another complaint about how long it takes for some suggestions to be implemented. These are not constructive posts.

Who talk here abouth that? I give comment in mine thread that will be good if players also have fast access to tournament what they play, like now how TD get fast link to hes games.

Ofcourse its hes site he dont need to listen nobody,if he want, he sell product to customers, and he can arange like he want, not like customers want. Ofcourse sometime these can be counter productive. I just hope that scoreboard drop of players, not effect of lack experiments with site, because for long time i dont see that active players go belove 19000 .

I understand that, but it's not our place in Suggestions to tell the webmaster what to implement and in what order. The best we can do is send to him the suggestions that will be good for the site. Your suggestion made eminent sense and is a logical system to use -- I do admit that. Most or all people here would agree with that, even lack I'm sure. The problem is that your particular suggestion just did not make sense from the point of view of efficient page loading/server usage. Most of us in Suggestions do not really ever think about that side because most of us do not run websites with hundreds of thousands of users ;-P

All of these suggestions are great and I'd like to see them implemented. I just don't want them to get drowned out by negativity, you know? If lack doesn't want to do yours, let's keep working until we can get the best compromise we can.
