most fair map

Postby liamrisksmart on Fri Jun 10, 2011 1:03 pm

ok, i know you guys will say a great player can turn any game around but feck it, im sick of playing games decided almost entirely by dice, drops and who goes 1st.

What map in your opinion decreases the effects of dice and drop and much as possible? in 2 player games. (without playing freestyle)

i would imagine its a map with large deploys and regular starting lands. but io dont know all the maps yet. so advice please?
i want a challange so a complicated map is not really a problem.
i thought pearl harbour would do this but... NO ... lol no. such a huge impact by planes and going first.

I like WWII Poland for 1v1. The drop is completely even and the advantage to going first is negligible.

Hive and some maps with starting positions. Unless your opponent has awesome dice, both of you will be getting similar amounts of troops to deploy for the first few rounds.
Others like New World can be very dice dependent because two auto-deploy territories can be extremely close to each other.

i agree except if you go first on this map you win 80% if you know what you are doing.. however 1v1 ww2 poland manual nospoil 24h freestyle is fair since both start at the same time.. and it being 24h you dont have to be able to play freestyle to actually play it (you just wait your opponent out and play it like a sequential game)

also feudal war foggy esc chained is good for 1v1 (esc so that the first 3 turns wont be as important if you have less than favourable dice here)

also non-conquest-maps like cricket stalingrad and waterloo can be even 1v1 although normally the one who goes first wins, but atleast there is a chanse to fight your way back.. (especially foggy)

my 5 cents

I like Arms race and AOR2/3 - foggy helps - but a good player, 1st turn, good drop, and good dice will always be pretty hard to beat

Poland WWII (although I disagree that first to play is negligible) ... and peloponesian ... and any other maps like that are usually the fairest/most neutral for 1v1 methinks

I would say feudal war. who goes first, drops, etc mean little or nothing as to the outcome... Well, most of the time anyway! Every rule has to have at least one exception ;-)

I would agree with this, however I would suggest that Escalating cards makes it even. (Person who goes first bonus is negated by the extra armies generated by esc cards)

I'm not sure I'd say it is the most fair map, but I think Germany is pretty excellent constructed map when it comes to gameplay.

I think Dass Scholls is the most even map I have every played. Drop is of little impact. going first is of little impact. Being smart and playing clever is all you need.

yeah das schloss makes for pretty good 1v1 in nospoils atleast.. its fair in esc also but bloody hard to finish.. and will come down to whoever catches a 3-carder and can clear out and block the next player from getting a card..

Well, usually the game is decided before the card cashes come into play to that level....but it is certainly a fair map, assuming you your opponent doesnt go first and gets dropped the extra bonus of +3 in the schloss, or upper right, which can be pretty tough to counter.

My personal opinion is that World is and always will be the most fair, when every aspect of fair is examined, because its straightforward, requires no tricks, and the better strategy will win far more often than good dice, especially on the right settings.

if you can block someone from getting a card in 1vs1, then you have already won, but yea.
no spoils is hard to finish, as is esc in 1vs1. Its also balanced for teams, esp esc

I keep wondering about people who nominate big maps as fair. how about 1vs1 2.1? thats hardly fair.
I think only conquest maps have any chance of competing in the fair maps challenge, at least there you all start equal and going first should not be to great an advantage. this does include dass schloss, but excluded maps as the easter egg hunt, and antartica.
