[Q&A]

ratings, can you give a player more than one? can you dispute a clearly flawed spiteful rating? can you be penalised for giving stupid ratings?

no, yes yes, eventually.
No you can only give one rating at a time, but you can change your rating when you have played the player again. Also you can at any time withdraw a rating you have handed out, no explenation is needed, just press withdrawn. You cannot add a new rating untill you have played that player again.

Yes, you can dispute a flawed spiteful rating. This can be done by going to your ratings and press respond. The Modsquad will NOT rectify a rating, unless it is clear rating abuse of multiple cases (read many) and even then not always... So don't count on it.

You can be penalized if you continuesly give a flawed rating, e.g. add deadbeat when the other player has not been booted out of the game, continuesly and without any merit. However such cases need to be brought to the modsquads attention. If it happens often and severely enough you will have your rating powers taken away.

well i had one guy give me 3 one stars. i beat him in two, 1 on 1 games on classical map, both of which lasted about 1-2 days. there was no game chat in either except for

2011-05-04 08:45:38 - Galatea: fucking game...
2011-05-04 08:46:11 - Galatea: 20vs 15 and you end with 17 GL
2011-05-04 08:47:14 - liamrisksmart: oops

not sure how he can justify giving me one star for fair play or attitude. or even gameplay since he failed to beat me.
i know you probably cant say too much, but do you reckon this is perhaps worth following up with a complaint?

no while 3 stars is considerd to be low by most (if you have a 3 star rating overall i will not play you) it is considered average by the site. This is because most people find cc an excellent waste of their time and concequently rate their opponants excellent as well..

Liam, unfortunately the rating system is designed such that sore losers can wreck your rating in a last ditch effort to restore their self-esteem. I have argued that the rating system needs work in other posts but have been rebutted with comments suggesting that ratings do not matter (although sir just admitted he won't play anyone under 3 stars), that I should just foe these people, etc, etc. I did make a stink once that resulted in a one month ratings ban to one player but he was grossly abusing the system and I had to produce a huge stinking pile of evidence against him. As far as a couple games is concerned, you are, according to the powers that be, supposed to suck it up. These days I don't bother rating anyone except those who are glaringly good/bad in some respect. It's really a shame that the rating system is so flawed since a better system would probably make the site more enjoyable for all.

Empathetically,
Funky

Game 9006229 is most likely where the rating came from. Your opponant was quite unlicky with his dice, you were winning then then you do not take your turn for 30 hours? Whats up with that?
Obviously he did not call you a deadbeat, since you missed not enough turns, but slow. Yup fitting.
I can see where someone dallying around without taking the kill is going to negativly affect your opponants pleasure of the game. It does not have to be a concern for you, but if it is not, then the rating is appropriate. If it is a concern for you, then you should have made an appology in chat to show why you were missing a turn.

And Funk, the suggestions forum is there for suggestions. If you have a very cool and good idea on how to go with a different rating system, without burdening the site, and without burdening its moderation squad any further then they are now already. Please fire away.
As it is, we have rules about and against clear abuse. We ask that if you spot it, you help out with the evidence. After all if you spotted it, why should the volunteers do your homework... So if you bring it, they will look at it, but ratings tend to matter less once you have had your first 100. And not all ratings are totally inappropriate, just because you do not agree with it. Ratings reflect how the other person felt in the game, not how good you really are. If you have been an arse, you can still win, but your opponant might not have enjoyed the game one bit.. So ratings are mostly subjective rather then absolute.

Seb, you have legitimate points against this particular situation, I should have looked at his games. My only real gripe here is that a lot of times all a mod has to do is click on a player's ratings given and see that half of the ratings are all 1s to determine that someone is abusing the system. There's no need for someone to waste an hour providing redundant evidence if the offending party is obviously at fault. I mean, who's the customer here?

I think this is bye bye...

Funk, I am a paying customer who listens to you.. SO are the C&A (Cheating and Abuse) moderators. If you clicked a single page with only 1's in them and checked the games out. (after all, thats the least that needs to be looked at.. its not all obvious, just see above)Then you can simply copy paste the name, the link to the ratings and give a view of the games played. When it chekcs out, measures will be taken. Its slow, but booting someone just because you say so, well thats more Wicked's think, not mine.. ;-)

yeah sorry im pretty new and your point is fair, only now when my games are full do i realise how annoying it can be to be stuck waiting to finish up some games, although i dont think i personally will rush into giving negative ratings.
Thanks for the replies.

liamrisksmart, excellent motivation. Just stick it out, with a positive attitude or just a wish to remain on the site, you will collect more ratings. in very good games you can drop a line in gamechat that you wish to be rated. Don't ask for 5 stars, thats annoying, but a. guys i'd like you to rate me request can certainly be appeciated.
With a few more ratings behind your belt , you will look back and dismiss it..
