This is based on the Johnny Depp/Tim Burton hollywood adaptation. I've never seen the play so I don't know how it matches up.

Benjamin Barker was a simple barber in London living out his days in happiness with his beautiful wife Lucy and his daughter Johanna. However, he was exiled to Australia by the villainous Judge Turpin for a crime he did not commit. However, after 15 years, he finally escaped and was carried away in a ship by a virtuous boy, Anthony Hope. Upon returning to London he returns to his barbershop and meets Mrs. Nellie Lovett, a woman who has opened a pie shop below his former barbershop. She tells him that his wife committed suicide shortly after his departure and that his daughter is now Judge Turpin's ward.

Sweeney Todd goes upstairs and finds his old razors, saved by Mrs. Nellie Lovett all those years. As he opens the case and pulls them out, he holds them up to the window. The gleaming silver contrasts sharply with the overcast London skyline. He knew the moment of revenge was soon to come.
