ProCCrastination

Postby Dukasaur on Sun Apr 24, 2011 2:47 pm

So, what percentage of us end up in the forums because we log in to take our turns, find ourselves facing a really difficult turn in a map we can't understand, and decide that it's easier to engage in some inane chatter than to try to formulate a decent attack plan?

If the game is winnable, then I'll take it right away, but if we're losing, I'm definitely ignoring that shit.

This happens to me all the time! A hard game makes my brain hurt and I go to the forums for less stimulation.

Heck, I use CC to procrastinate from many things. Writing papers, cleaning, chores...However, know that they do get done eventually ;)

I usually need to play my turns before venturing into the forums, since once I do, I rarely go back to my games until the next day---I get too busy/interested in posting and reading.

I log in, check my games (most of the time it's not my turn in any of 4 games), and then check mafia game status, and then venture out into OT and then to GD. And I check the status of the tournament I'm running in between those actions.
I use CC to procrastinate on real-life stuff but not to procrastinate taking turns. you know you play too much CC when...

Right on for me. There have been times that I've logged in and never taken a turn because I got distracted by the forums! Now I have a set formula when I log in so I don't forget! (Wall, Inbox, Games, Forums, in that order)

I picked that I am a CC god and never visit the forums for that reason.

points come points go you should not worry about such losses not to the extent of becoming too cowardly to play ive known some who log on/off 5 times before taking their turn keeping everyone waiting 23hrs .....dont you like playing or what ?? these players may find i target them for destruction ahead of tactics why because its a game so play it let war commence & lick yer wounds later

That used to bother me until I realized that superior players often consider their turns before acting.

i ve played chess since 4/5 yrs and prefer speed chess i agree to the idea of thinking before a move but if i need 23 hrs i also need a pulse check its like getting on to the top board & knee-knocking at the edge now i dont suggest jumping without looking but try thinking ahead consider riding a m/cycle you can see a little way up the road so can making freeflowing decisions all the way down the road watching for the gaps opening up ahead of you 8-)

Only before I sweep on a big escalator map. Just to make sure I don't have to poop in the middle.

Not the middle of the map, I mean on my turn.

When I don't take my turn right away it's certainly not cowardice. I'm not procrastinating because I'm afraid to lose, but because the strain of figuring things out is sometimes quite intense. On simple maps maybe not, but there are some brutally complicated maps out there, and if you haven't played them a lot it takes a lot of time to go through the territories, figure out which ones can attack which ones, and so on. For instance, when I originally made the post above, I think I was working on either a Poison Rome game or a Waterloo game. Both of those are maps where territories don't just attack adjacent territories; there are lots of terts that one-way attack only or that bombard things far away, and if you're not familiar with it, there's a lot of painstaking thought involved in deciding where to go next.

And incidentally, nameless nemesis, I'm looking through your games and I see you play mostly on ridiculously simple maps like Classic or British Isles. Why don't you try a game or two on Lunar War or Poison Rome with me before you call me a coward because I want time to think?

I spend my life constantly procrastinating. Firstly, Conquer Club for me is one big procrastination from the real world studies, which I have so much of. However, I also suffer from proccrastination and have a bad case of it. Not only do I occasionally proccrastinate from turns, I also proccrastinate from duties that I have within the website such as newsletter stuff and strategy guides, mafia games, clan stuff etc. It is bad when you begin procrastinating from the procrastination and this procrastinating from the procrastination normally takes place in live chat which is a procrastination paradise.

Sometimes I do find myself procrastinating from taking my turns right away since I want to give my mind some time to mull over what next actions are on the board...
