I've learned how to play an online game and BBCode. Does that count?

This really isn't true. And that's not a knock against the special needs kids, but rather putting up the average high school student. Special needs kids aren't any more special in that regard, at all.

OK, just what the teachers here say is true, then. Not necessarily true everywhere. And I find that maybe 30% of high school students really work hard. The rest don't seem to.. around here, anyway. I HOPE that is not the same elsewhere. Glad to hear if it is not!

Lazy is lazy, whether it's a gifted student or a special needs student.[/quote]True, but most special needs kids are not allowed to be lazy.. unless they are BOTH special needs and gifted (my son is close to that category.. and is part of why we have such HUGE problems with the school).

PLAYER57832 wrote:There is nothing to be ashamed in not having great gifts. There absolutely is something to be ashamed of those given great gifts who simply are too lazy to use them.

That would apply to any gift.[/quote]

Sure it could! Andy's the principal, King A is the Chief Policeman of the District, and we have different classes (Art, Organizational techniques, Sociology, and Recess)

Also, I have no idea how this lasted so long without anyone noticing it belongs in GD. :o

Conquer Club does offer a wide variety of things that could be considered classes or components of classes:

  • Geography (Learn where cities, countries, regions, seas, and more---from all around the world)
  • Art (Map Foundry)
  • Event Organization (Think user-run tournaments, Mafia Games, etc)
  • Critical Thinking and Reasoning (Both in-game and in Off Topic Forum posts)
  • Physical Education (Think having a plethora of games to play...and the endurance it takes!)
  • Sociological and Community Development (Investigations of the Forums/Games/Profiles)
There are more I'm probably missing!

I'm not sure there's a lot in this.
I did get really excited one time when I read one of Robinette's posts... She described how to learn to tie shoe laces by making bunny ears. Yes! Something useful on CC. Off I rushed to show my daughter. My daughter was deeply unimpressed. She taught herself to tie her laces by some other means. She has tried to show me, but I just can't tie my laces like she does. So even bunny ears didn't turn out to be useful knowledge. :(

Yeah, see I don't tie my shoes with bunny ears, either...

As a high school math teacher, I find this thread amusing! I hear stuff all the time about how certain things should count as certain credits (including babysitting should count as a physical education credit  ) and frankly people do them anyway without the motivation. At most, CC is an "academic interest". I do kind of wonder if you could put something like writing for the CC Newsletter on a college application...

yeah, putting CC on a resume? interesting. i wonder what the boss would say. (probably "oh Yeah!" if he was also on CC)
thinking of which, what if the guy to hire you was also on CC, and you played CC during work together?

I've never learned any other way to tie my shoelaces than the bunnyears method.

I've learned two ways to do the bunnyears method, and sometimes I end up with 3 loops instead of 2, which is anomylous.
And also, I always double-tie my shoes because if I don't, they'll untie all day (sometimes they still do-- time to break out the triple-tie?)

I also have this problem. It's very, very irritating. Maybe we should have a class for Shoe Tying -- A Misconceived Art

The problem here is that CC doesn't accurately teach the map of Middle Earth. All other geographical knowledge being useless, this can't count.

CC100- The Art of Shoe Tying
This is an introductory course designed to help you learn how to tie shoes with laces, and develop different strategies of doing so. Also to be covered are the putting on of shoes with straps, flip flops, and wooden shoes. Students will be black-lace shoe tyers by the end of the course.
CC100 - 5 credits

Just chalk that up to the standard text-book biases and errors.
