Overtime option in Speed Games

Postby jizzabelle on Sun Apr 10, 2011 10:41 pm

So after playing a few games of speed games, I think the inclusion of an overtime feature would be helpful for (the majority of*) players.

Sometimes during speed games with 4(+) people, I tend to check back every 5 or 10 minutes or so just to see if its my turn yet. Usually I do get back in time and I have a sufficient amount of time to make my move.

However, sometimes I may get back and there is only 1 or 2 minutes left to make my turn. This makes it incredibly frustrating as I try frantically to make my decision and reinforce my troops in time. Sometimes I even run out of time and as a result I:

1) lose my turn
2) am unable to deploy all my troops in the right places
3) am unable to reinforce all my territories accordingly
4) miss out on my spoils card (even though I have attacked another player and successfully conquered it, the system still does not award me with a card)

I think the inclusion of an overtime feature would be nice, as it can make things easier for all of us.

How this should work (IMO) is that if you started your turn and there are 1 or 2 minutes left and you know you cannot finish all your tasks on time, you can click a button which can extend your game time for about a minute or two. You cannot click this button unless you have started your turn, so that AFKers will not be awarded extra time.

Hope you guys consider this :)

You contradict yourself. You say tha tyou go AFK and need extra time, but you say that AFK's wont get the extra time. I don't get how that is different.

It means that people who go AFK but aren't considerate enough to return before the end of their turn, don't get this bonus. People who go AFK but return slightly before missing their turn would get the time bonus.

If you are not there for your turn you should not receive extra time.. not fair for the people that return to their game on time IMO

I cannot express strongly enough how much "no" I feel for this suggestion. This just gives assholes a way to play even more speed games at once while simultaneously delaying them all even more.

I think some of you don't understand. People who are actually AFK for GOOD get no extra time.

People who started their turn get extra time (as in they have already pressed the "begin" button during that round).

And maybe a modification on this suggestion: you can only press the "extra time" button if the timer runs under 30 seconds and/or you have started with less than a minute left.

Speaking for myself, I only play 1 or 2 speed games at once. I think most people only play a few at a time as well. I don't sit in front of my computer waiting for each player to go and analyze their every move. I just check back every 5 or so minutes (or whatever interval) and sometimes all the other players have finished their turn in less than a minute.

What is the point in having a time limit, if you can simply push a button and get more time?

Rejected.

It would mess with the record of Longest Speed Game. Totally Unacceptable. If you want extra time, you should fine players who are willing to go RT.
