Dice Boost!

Postby giuppichan on Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:51 am

Concise description:
every ten (or eleven, I'm still open to suggestions) rolls, you get an extra dice to roll upon your discretion.

Specifics/Details:
basically you can accumulate extra dices rolls, to be used on a special occasion.

you can spend these extra rolls when attacking having the possibility to throw 4 dices instead of three (or two instead of 1 or three instead of 2)

you get a check box and when you thick it, you throw an extra dice for each attack until you use all the bonus - or until you uncheck the box.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
you would get an option to "motivate" and increase troops' performances.
I believe it might compensate or reduce the effect of luck.
in general it might deepen the gameplay
you will have the option to choose important battles

Maybe a good idea as a game option? But probably not

and definitely not a good idea to be made site wide

hi,

So what you mean is then every once in a while you get 1 extra dice? Personnally i think this isn't going to happen, because:
It would change 1 of the basic concepts of the game and would give a double advantage to attackers.
And how would it end if there are 4 sixes rolled by the attacker and 2 by the defender, would the defender still loose an armie?

say the attacked throws 4 6 es, and the defencer 1 dice also a 6, then only the attacker would loose troops.
basicly you would now really be screwed...lol

This would be really strange to code into the system.

Am I to assume this would be a game by game bonuses? It certainly couldn't go game by game, because you could spend 2 months stock piling, then piss people off by joining 8 player games and dominating with super dice for an entire game, or save up and try to power your way through a tourny. No bueno.

sure, a game by game accrual, you cannot carry it over between games
and sure, an option to select when you create a game - I mean, you can keep it as it is now if don't want it

let's say you accrue 1 extra dice every ten you roll and have have an example.

Attacker got 7 troops his her enemy 5.
so far no one accrued anything, it's the first round.

first four rolls: attacker and defender lose 1 army each
we get to 3 troops vs 1

at this point attacker should roll another 2 dices against 1.
but so far he rolled 12 times, and he gained 1 extra roll in his pocket.

He can decide to invest it in this attack, since he believe that taking this territory as an important strategic value (e.g. you are taking out a continent).
Then he can thick the boost flag, and roll again 3 dices against 1 (2 normal + 1)

or he can save the extra roll for the future, and keep accruing the extra dices.

the boost last for an attack only (since he accrued one only extra dice so far), meaning that if the attacker use it and lose 3 vs 1, then next roll is going to be 1 vs 1.

Based on your post, I would say this would get unbelievably Ridiculous if you had 2 relatively big stacks go at it. Having stacks of 100~ hitting each other would result in endless rolls of having an extra dice. Imagine if two stacks of 1000~ or more hit each other?

I don't like it

Dear TheForgivenOne,

Thank you for your input.
Remember you accrue 1 extra roll every 10. it's about 10% of the rolls, not really endless.
if we review this ratio and make it 1 every 30, and it would make 3%, even less.
Based on my limited experience, a limited number of games get to have 100 units stack.
Again, it would be an option to chose, so if you create a game with settings that more than likely are going to generate 100 units stack, then you can decide not to add this feature.

About the "unbelievably Ridiculous", yes, it would be something to consider and that could change the gameplay we are currently used to. I mean, attackers would get a boost (3% - 10%) and the turtle approach might not pay that much as it does now. piling up tons of troops on Thailand would make less sense than it does today.

The main point here is that it would give you an option to prioritize your attack, hence overall strategy would enhance its weight against luck.

Let's take other things into account.

You are basically asking to change the mechanics that this game is based around. While this isn't an exact replica of a board game called Risk, which we are in no way related to, it still has the basic mechanics.

Sure, the spoils are different (Nobody argues that), but it keeps the same mechanics, You cash in 3 cards. You have a max of 3 Attacking dice, and 2 defending, making the *Cough*Dice*Cough* the same (DON'T YELL AT ME DICE COMPLAINERS) . The maps are in essence the same. Hold X regions and you get X bonus. With a few XML tweaks, such as Starting positions, losing conditions, objectives, etc. But this makes the game more fun in it's own way. This suggestion to me seems like someone just wanting a better chance at winning a roll.

And i'm really really tired of people using the whole "WELL, let's use it as an option :D then you don't have to play it" as an excuse to get their suggestion implemented. seriously? Come on people, it gets old after awhile. Using that logic, this site would be riddled with tons and tons of pointless options that would confuse New users more so.
