Linked Users

Postby fookeh on Mon Mar 21, 2011 11:55 am

There is always the issue of multiple accounts on this site and from what I can tell it's all based on the same IP Addresses. What about people who live in the same household, that both enjoy, and want to pay for CC?

My suggestion would be to have a linked user option, something like adding a friend, only you add the account with whom you are linked. Say each user is permitted to have one linked user - Then create something on the back end (I don't know how things are coded here) that disallows linked users to play in a game against one another that has more than two people in it and only allow linked users to play against each other, or on the same team in a teams game. That eliminates any possible secret diplomacy issues.

For example, two accounts - fookeh and some_cc_account... provided both accounts have a premium membership, can be linked together (done similar to adding a friend), and cannot play in a game with more than two people (can only play against each other if playing in the same game except for team games). That way, there are no secret diplomacy issues and no cheating issues.

If this suggestion is rejected, how could two people who just want to play and have fun on here play together, but live in the same household, other than having to use a work pc on breaks?

Thanks for your time folks!

The safest way is to send in a support ticket from the Help Page. Let the admin know what the names of the accounts are before you start. It is also best to avoid playing public games against each other. It's fine to be on the same team or to play against each other in private games.

Thing is, this would also give cheaters an opening to two accounts. They could claim the "linked" account is there friend, and just avoid playing 1v1 together. Viola, they have 2 accounts on the website.

My suggestion would allow for linked users to play only 1v1 or team games (with each other in the same game). I'm sure the coding folks on this site could put the two linked accounts into a variable and check whenever they join a game to ensure they are only playing 1v1 or teams. Any other gaming format could generate a message that states something like "you are attempting to join a game that your linked user has joined. This is not permitted".

And if there friend becomes inactive? They get stuck to playing 1v1 and team games?

I believe he means for this to only effect games that the linked accounts are in.

Oops  Read that wrong.

Then did he actually read what I wrote? Or did he twist it? I was saying this would give 1 (ONE, UNO) person to create 2 accounts, and claim they are friends by linking them together.

I personally say it should be the other way. Basically there would be a filter that if accounts share a certain amount of information, they are automatically blocked from playing with each other. Of course the block could be removed by sending in an e-ticket.

Yes I suppose that could occur; however, linked users would only be able to play against each other in 1 v 1s or team games, so that eliminates any possibility of secret diplomacy because they either play against each other 1 v 1, or they play on the same team in a team game. Both users would not be able to play 1 v 2-8 games together as secret diplomacy could occur.

I see your point TFO, but I figure if you eliminate the cheating that could occur by limiting linked users to play only on the same team, or in the same 1 v 1 game, that should eliminate the cheating component should it not? I'm sure there are other reasons for not having multiple accounts though.

That being said, if implemented, my suggestion would be that linked users can ONLY play with each other in the following games:

1v1 formats
Doubles \ Triples \ Quads - can only be on the same team

Any other game format (like standard with more than two players) will not be acceptable.

The only way you can have a linked user is if both are premium members. Once one of the accounts loses premium, the link is broken and the user(s) are subjected to be banned.

Not every player creates a multi just to team up in a game. I'm sure high ranked players could create the "linked" player and be able to play all the fun games they want to, without having to risk points. A lot of multi's are busted that haven't even played in the same game as each other.

A multi could just as easily file a eTicket notifying the admins about his "family member" on the other account.
