Indicate playing status during player search

Postby gryffin13 on Tue Jan 01, 2008 6:54 pm

For me when I search for games with a certain player, and I see the list of active games, there is no way of seeing whose turn it is, who can play etc. without actually entering the game. I don't know if other people care but when I want to see if someone is stalling I want to check all of their games and see if they have played in any of them. I think it would be fairly simple to add the red, yellow, green icons to active games in the game finder with a certain player. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who cares.

Suggested a while back.

i believe it was rejected because it was a lot of extra work for the servers to check whos turn it is on each game. so it only does it on your games, not game finder.

oh I guess that makes sense, I don't know that much about computers, but if its not feasible, then I retract my suggestion.

See who's turn it is...

Postby Mr_Adams on Sat May 24, 2008 5:25 pm

Be able to tell who's turn it is in Game finder

Easier to find people, and make sure they are not ditch your rt. (when they have privacy setting on)

Also, if you want to talk to someone, you can see if they are currently involved in a specific game.

Just a little quicker than Pm'ing somebody who is online.

I noticed that when you look in Game finder, you must open each individual game to see who's turn it is. why doesn't it have the little green dot next to the name of whosoever turn it is?

Green Circle, Red Square, Yellow Triangle on ALL game finder

Postby Queen_Herpes on Fri Mar 18, 2011 3:10 pm

Concise description:
  • Show the Red Square, Green Circle, and Yellow Triangle on ALL game finder results, not just your own.

Specifics/Details:
  • Currently, when a player selects the "My Games" link on the Navigation on the Left Side Navigation, the user sees the Green Circle, Red Square and Yellow Triangle for all games.
  • Currently, when a player uses "Game Finder" or selects "Find all games with <player>" Link on a player's wall, there are no green/yellow/red indicators.
  • Provide the green/yellow/red indicators on all game finder results and the issues listed below can be resolved...

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • When trying to determine if a player is online, but the online status is hidden, a different member could see via game finder whether the player is on yellow triangle in a game and/or if the player has all green circles for all of their active games.
  • When playing against a player, but the online status is hidden, a different member could see if the player is actively avoiding turns and/or missing turns.

It would be very helpful in Team games but,
it defeats the purpose of using " Hide My Online Status "

I personally disagree with this. If someone does not want to be followed online, then they should have the freedom of being able to hide that. I believe that was the spirit of the reason behind the phpbb code for hiding your online status.

This is a good point. Having this implemented would give away online status.

True, but think of how much "work" someone would need to do to determine if someone is online. Currently, the work is a lot.. You have to click on every game the player is active in. Now, you can just click on their games link and you're done. This comes not from a perspective of wanting to know whether or not someone is online in a prying manner, moreso to determine, "Should I wait to see if this person is playing me RT or if they will not be online again until tomorrow morning."

No...hardly any at all. If the yellow triangle were showing, it's obviously a dead giveaway. But even without that, just by quickly checking the games where the player following the particular individual has a green dot would do it.

This could be coded in as an option, just like posting presence may be revealed or hidden.

However, this is related to a similar suggestion I posted ... knowing if someone is oneline in one's OWN games quickly.

I probably didn't explain that very well. I'll try again:

Currently, if interested in seeing if a player is online, you first go to their profile. (First click)
If status is hidden, you go to their games (Second click)
Next step, click on one game to see which player has the green light (Third click)
Repeat third click as necessary (4th, 5th, etc....)

Lots of navigating in the current scenario. And all I want to do is find out if the player is online to play rt, find out if the player is intentionally skipping the games where I am playing against this player, and ultimately let me know if I should wait around for this player to take his turn. It saves me time and I think it helps deal with negative strategies (those employed in freestyle games and/or holding a freemium player hostage.)

Via this suggestion, there is still work involved:

Suggested scenario, if interested in seeing if a player is online, you first go to their profile. (First click)
If status is hidden or not, you go to their games (Second click)
Then you scroll through their games to see who has the green light
Then you click on one game to see how much time is left in the turn on the green lighted games (Third click)
Repeat third click as necessary (4th, 5th, etc....)

Almost the same amount of work, though, arguably you can make some estimations about their status and whether or not they are avoiding turns in your games if, after the second click, you can see the player's only green light is on the game with you.

The reason for this suggestion is that there have been some opponents of mine who login, take turns in games against other opponents and skip turns in mine and other freemium games (I suppose to see if they can affect whether or not I will miss turns considering my less than 100% turns taken percentage)(or perhaps they are just being mean.) The ultimate result would be that I could make an easier decision about foeing an opponent for these tactics.

na like darwins said if a player hides there status it means they do not want to be seen online. maybe a option could be opening up the hide status info to maybe this.

hide from all players.

hide status apart from friends.

then that player can add people he wants to his friend list and it will show them he is online.

There are times that I can see a player is online, but I want to know if the player is actively avoiding the games against me and other freemiums. I can see that quickly and easily by seeing the red, yellow, green. Sure, I could post to the wall ot PM the player, but that wouldn't help me to know if the player is playing games or not.

I've played against a few who are clearly avoiding the games against the freemiums (who knows the reason) and I've posted to their wall when they were online saying, "Hi, could we play this game in RT..." and the responses I've received have included: "Buy Premium." "F**K YOU!" "Don't post on my wall." and "I've got x number of games going, I cannot get to your games right now, sorry." Then I had to go through the trouble of searching their games to see if they were avoiding taking their turns against me. Some even waited until the last few minutes of the 24 hours to take turns.

I think other freemiums might be bothered by this, but I think many many other people would be happy to be able to unobtrusively lurk another player to see if they are playing games and/or online...

[GF] Turn in Progress Arrow in Game Finder Searches

Postby nietzsche on Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:22 pm

Be able to know who's taking a turn from the game finder list just like you can in the My games tab, with a yellow arrow.

Specifics/Details:
  • I don't understand why not?

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • sometimes you are looking for a player, and it would be useful to see if he's taking a turn
  • maybe you are interested in some type of games, you look for them and if you see someone taking his turn, you might wanna watch

I've wondered why this doesn't show up in the Game Finder results, too. Maybe there's a reason for it that someone can shed some light on.
