Mad Max? That's played by Mel Gibson or however you spell it..
And he's American.

So how is that an Australian mythical fiction hero?

Gibson was born in America, but his family moved to Australia when he was young. He went to acting school in Sydney. His acting career began in Australia. George Miller, the director of the Mad Max movies, is Australian. Byron Kennedy, the producer of the of the Mad Max movies, is Australian. The story of Mad Max is set in post-apocalyptic Australia. Also, the first Mad Max movie was dubbed-in with American voices so that American audiences wouldn't be turned off by all the Australian accents.

That’s weird - Mel Gibson is Scotland’s national hero too. After Braveheart they put a statue of him up at the Wallace monument in Stirling to secure his place in the hearts of all true Scotsmen.

our national hero is gareth edwards. he united wales in the 1600s and threw off the shackles of the australian oppressors. he then invented paracetemol, discovered england and is the only welshman so far to walk on jupiter.

no, wait a minute, i got confused. he is our greatest ever rugby player - and that is far more important.

Give it time and I'm sure he will also find his way into Canadian mythology.

Sorry, blame it on Noah Webster. He was responsible for the first Grammars in the States, not to mention the dictionary, and firmly believed that if we were independent our spelling should show it. Kinda weird huh?

Why wouldn't they? You're from the US.
