Help, Please! (Total Newbie)

Postby LittleLionFlower on Mon Dec 13, 2010 12:39 am

So my Boyfriend loves Risk, but no one ever plays with him because it's boring or difficult or what have you. So now I'm trying to learn to play enough to at least entertain him before Christmas. Ive poked around on Google and Youtube for the rules, but I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to help me not looks stupid, and where to start on this site to practice.

Thanks in advance

^.^

Gift him premium, "entertain" him in "other ways".

Does your boyfriend know of this website? If so it should satisy any interest he has. As far as training for you, if youve never played before, or only a bit, you will be crushed against the general public. And if you want to get experienced before Christmas, youll be short of time, only being able to play 4 games at a time. What you should do is just tell your boyfriend about the site and give him the gift of premium membership for $25 and he can play unlimited games. If its about you playing with him, then you should check out the Society of Cooks, its a solid training ground for new members. Although again, without premium status and the ability to play speed games your training will take a long time.

... or ... try joining the society of cooks - they'll give you step-by-step guidance to get better. Also, just play loads of games. I am assuming you want to practise so you can play him at the original board game? If so then just play matches on the classic map.

Settings:
Standard
Automatic
Sequential
Flat rate (or escalating)
Chained
No fog of war

Well, first let's start by going to the right forum, Strategy :)

To answer your question of practically "How to Play", we have The Society of Cooks to help you get a little better at your basic understanding of the game, and how things work before throwing you into the ocean of available CC game settings.

Secondly, the rules on here are not like RISK, to an extent. This site and Hasbro have nothing to do with each other, and you'll find that it is unique to other forms of world domination games. Once you have mustered up a well understanding of the game and how it works on this site, I then suggest to pick a map you like, see if there is an appropriate Strategy Guide, and go from there. Specializing your areas at first might be the best way for you to build a solid foundation of the game before branching out to other maps and methods of gameplay.

In addition, you may also find a consistent doubles partner beneficial. Ask your boyfriend if he would like to team up with you, assuming he's on this site, to help you know the game if the other avenues seem to lengthy and official, lol. Also, the Strategy forum may have some other threads you may be interested in for long run play.
Good luck to you on CC!,
