What is Your Favorite Holiday Song?

Postby thegreekdog on Tue Dec 07, 2010 10:30 am

If you celebrate Christmas, Channukah, Kwanza, the Winter Solstisce, or don't celebrate any holidays at this time of year, what is your favorite song?

I'm partial to Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas.

I like it. And, let the record reflect that I would give that woman whatever she wanted.

The Christmas band I've been a part of for the past 3 years (The O By Gollies) is just about done recording our second album. This year, we went with a punk-rock-Christmas kinda feel. I'll post a link when it's done. This year's tracklist includes: Oh Holy Night, Silent Night, Little Drummer Boy, Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem, and We Three Kings.

Afterwards, do you notice any change in your self-esteem and/or self-respect?

A close second is "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses.

Sarah Silverman - Give The Jew Girl Toys

I hate Christmas music. Essentially it's the same 20 songs sung by 30,000 different people. I encourage anyone to play something original or add original songs to the old playlist.

hahaha, on a more serious note, does recording that kind of stuff feel unsatisfactory? do you do more than just those kinds of songs?

Not really. We put enough of a twist on it to make it enjoyable, and it makes a great gift for family and friends, so there's that level of satisfaction as well. I play in 2 "real" bands (original music). The O By Gollies will be playing a show this Saturday (opening the night for 3 quite heavy, and popular local bands). We'll be playing the five songs I mentioned above (the ones we recorded this year), as well as one from last year's album. Imagine God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, if it was done in the style of The Rolling Stones' Paint It Black.

The most enjoyable part of doing this for the past few years (and the reason we started doing it in the first place), was performing on a float in the annual Parade Of Lights. Definitely the biggest crowds I've ever played for; 75 & 90,000 people.
