In large maps like World 2.1 or Supermax Prison Riot, the advantage of going first in 1v1 is huge, because your initial troop deployment is larger than usual and you can use that to aggressively decrease your opponent's "troops due" at the very first turn (since you're the first one to "bite", your opponent will be forced to fight passively until you get crap dice). The advantage is decreases for smaller maps as both players receive 3 troops in their first turn.
The advantage is even more insignificant for maps with starting regions (ex.Feudal Epic), because those maps rely more on auto-deploy than territory number in terms of gaining more troops at the beginning of your turn. Also, you can't sabotage your opponent on the first turn because there are so many neutrals to break at first. If you want a more fair 1v1 game, I suggest you play on the starting position maps instead of the "normal" maps.
