lol, that's true - nothing else on the planet would be able to say anything about it's untimely demise, only us

I'm a big proponent of a natural end. Whether its the supervolcanoes erupting or an asteroid storm hitting us.

The concept of nuclear war killing us all is a valid one, but psychologically inept. If someone was psychotic enough to press the button, theoretically we'd be able to take it out before the missile armed itself. They finally had one successful test of the missile shield recently I believe. One success out of a quarter-million failures but it shows that we're making some progress. Also, there's the preservation of the ego. Barring psychosis, no egotistical dictator would be willing to initiate a chain of events that would result in his own demise, because that would deprive the world of his genius/looks/etc.

physically it has to end eventualy, stars eventualy burn out. by our rekoning that's millions upon millions of years away, but still would be the end

About 1 trillion years away actually.
That is referred to as 'The Heat Death' No stars, no heat, you see?

Life could probably survive longer by feeding off gravity or the radiation from Black Holes for a few more trillion years, but that would be the end of anything interesting.

Thought it was another 8 million-to 8 billion...one of the two i think they said...i dont know maybe not

It is nigh impossible to wipe a species out with a virus. You can kill a lot of them off and make them vulnerable to other things wiping them out, but it is very, very unlikely to wipe a species out.

This is because as the numbers get fewer and fewer then there will be less carriers and more distance between them. Eventually there will only be a few smal groups (for humans this will mean a few million of the richest and most powerful) but the disease will have a hard time travelling between these villages because there will be no-one left to carry it.

I really dont think that is true, there are many ways to keep a virus active, such as it could be a water borne disease, it could be air borne, or it could just stay in some type of animal like a bird, or some deer hell maybe even a mosquito. Besides that if, humanity came close to extinction by a disease but lived it out, then what? hope a docter male and a docter female find one other and become Adam and Eve?
No! there you have a new set of problems going from a different disease to some natural disaster or some type failure in your system, its kind of hard to treat yourself even harder if you dont know what the hell your doing, so honestly if the world did come that close i dont think we would find many survivors if not any.

Definitly not either. Hell, even in 8 billion, Sol will only have recently burned out, and there is a hell of a lot more stars where Sol came from.

But before, when there were billions of humans, each carrier would have been able to infect and kill thousands, if not millions of humans. Now, each is maybe killing one or two humans. Hell, population growth will probably more than make up for the casualties, or at least slow it down until the virus is pacified.

Thats exactly what I was saying. The virus mght not kil them directly, but it might open them up to a host of other ways to die...

Heres the link to the suns life span, it has another 4.5 billion years left to live (or to enter its red star phase) than some odd number of billions of years before it goes into the white dwarf stage.

Okay, 8 billion is twice the suns efective lifespan.

But the Sun isnt typical of a star. Most of them are dwarf stars that live for about 20 Billion years but are much smaller and cooler. There are some that only live for a few million years but arevery hot and will go supernova, while there are others that will live for 100bill+ years and have surface temps of only a few thousand degrees.

Luckily, star birthing fields are still very large and there is stillabout a trillion years of star formation ahead of us.

Saw that too, I think nuclear holocaust is the most eminent.
