Hey, you forgot the black pudding.

There's a cafe in Cardiff that delivers full breakfasts for £4 (or £5 for the mega breakfast). How awesome is that?

black pudding is a must, also fried mushrooms. if you don't have some congealed pigs blood with your fry-up, then you might as well not bother. There are many cafes in cardiff that supply breakfasts but the best would be the cafes in the rhondda valleys. pontypridd in particular.

worcester sauce is ace. and i can not live without salad cream.

When I went to London somewhat recently, I ordered that exact same thing. HP sauce + fish'n'chips = Heaven on Earth.

i dislike your venn diagram. why is wales automatically grouped with england. especially after the rugby lesson that we handed out at the millenium stadium yesterday.
if i was norwegian i would say;
"It is completely unbelievable! We have beaten England! England, birthplace of giants. Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana--we have beaten them all. We have beaten them all. Maggie Thatcher can you hear me? Yep. Wales & Ireland gave me quite the pause as a teenager. "Hey! I thought they spoke English! How come I can't read the signs?"

I haven't the faintest idea. Nor do I know why it refers to the Republic of Ireland or Eire as "Ireland". I found it on Wikipedia, and I like to annoy people with it.

A little bit from our country

Postby luns101 on Sun Mar 18, 2007 8:50 pm

For those of you outside of the United States, how aware are you of what we here refer to as "March Madness? Wicked had a thread called "Bracketology" which we Americans love to watch and talk about. I noticed one guy from Ireland posted, not knowing what we were referring to.

In our college system we have what's called the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The highest Division (Division I) has a basketball tournament every March which includes 64 teams from around the country. There is a selection committe which chooses the teams allowed to be in the tournament.

Small schools who belong in Division I are automatically allowed in if they win their conferences. So what ends up happening is that a very small school will play a larger, better school. Almost every year, some small school defeats a big school and they become the talk of the country. There are 4 separate brackets of teams ranked #1 - 16. Last year a #11 seed, George Mason, made it to the final 4 teams left. It was very cool.

I've heard of March Madness, only through ESPN and an old Playstation game called Final Four(?) or something like that.

I've heard of a lot of the NCAA teams, like the Fightin' Irish, Runnin' Rebels, Tarheels and Blue Devils. (I hope those are all basketball teams lol)

I wish we had the financial capacity in our country to have such huge university-level sporting events. Sadly, we can barely put our national sporting teams out there

Yes, those are all teams... basketball, football, baseball, the same team name for all sports that the University participates in.

And for the record,
Notre Dame Fightin' Irish
University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) Runnin' Rebels
North Carolina Tarheels
Duke Blue Devils.

If anyone has heard of the feats of our national rugby team, it's only because of the talent of the players. It is true though, that most of our nation's interests and financial backing is channelled into the sport of rugby; but even then, it is nowhere near the scale of funding other nations such as England and South Africa pump into the sport.

I guess it's just something that comes with such a small country as NZ. We just don't have the resources. Hell, even Australia puts us to shame in that regard

Oh, I never knew all the sports teams of a college shared the same name. That explains a lot, thanks :D

American sports culture

Postby beezer on Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:38 pm

All you need to know is half of the US doesn't like DUKE. There are certain rivalries over here. One of the biggest is DUKE versus North Carolina because they are in the same state.

UCLA was a big dynasty here in college basketball for many years. I think they have won a total of 11 NCAA championships in the tournament. They were coached by a man named John Wooden, a legend in our country as a basketball coach. Many of his players later went pro.

I think rivalries are healthy for any sport. I reckon it inspires players to the best of their abilities when they come up against old foes with scores to settle.

Ohhh. I have read of edit: the Legendary John Wooden, and one of his great college players Kareem Abdul-Jabbar(?) who went on to play for the Lakers(?) and became a legend in his own right.

I think that's what I read; correct me if I'm wrong.

I just realized that I want to visit NZ someday. Maybe I will what with joining the Marines and all. But anyway. I'm from America and I personally believe the Europe is just one huge hell-hole.

No, you are correct. The amazing thing about Jabbar is that they actually changed the rules to not allow dunking because he was so dominate. He didn't whine about it...he just went out and developed a new shot called the "sky-hook" which was basically undefendable.

YES!!! That is what I read!

Now that is a true, innovative sporting legend!

AND... he was in another legend's (Bruce Lee) film "Game of Death"!

As you can see with my location, I'm from Australia.

First of all, Australians do not talk the same as Steve Irwin or the Crocodile Hunter.
Not all of us say 'Mate' and "G'day", or 'bloke'.
Not all of us like the beach, or bbq's (I do though, just speaking about my Vegetarian friend)
Not all Australians like meat (as stated before).
Not all of us like AFL (If you know what that is), Cricket, Rugby, League, and blah blah.
We don't just sit around, having a barbie, drinking beer. I hate beer.

If you wana know anymore. Ask.

I think if a Kiwi says "Woot", he has a speech impediment and is really trying to say "Root".

That is mostly true, too, especially in Auckland. But Auckland experiences mostly rain, so any sudden change from that is always welcome lol.

The Far North and the South Island are usually our hotspots, even in the colder seasons. But again, nothing like Australia where the sun seems to shine endlessly.

At least our grass is green, not brown.

Just because we're in a drought, leave our grass alone. And F.Y.I, I have greeny grass.

I hate saying the 'Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Oi, oi, oi' thing, it really bugs me.

To Flashleg - XXXX is Queensland beer, the stupid idiots. I really don't like QLD, and also, it's Prawn, not shrimp. Say it.. P.R.A.W.N.

lol, I didn't mean it in an offensive way. I just refer to how everytime I fly into Oz I notice that the expanses of grass are a much lighter shade of green than the lush fields of, say, the Waikato dairy-farming area here in NZ. That might be because I haven't seen the more lush areas of Oz, so it was more of an assumption on my part. Sorry

I'm not a fan of many Oz beers, having tried a few while over there. Again, that's only because I'm used to Kiwi fare or foreign brews like Heineken and Stella Artois etc. Not because Oz beers are no good.
When I was in Melbourne for a few months I found that VB wasn't to my liking, but I looooved Crown Lager and Carlton Cold! :D

Still the best team in the world though! Next time you see your Prime Minister just mention that it might not be too fair if he does pump more money into Rugby... give everyone else a chance!
