diplamacy is an important part of the game but diplomacy does not always have to take the form of a pact. most of the time a few carefully measured words will do the trick. you can easily convince others to do what you want just like a true ally if you know what to say

Personally I try to avoid pacts. But when I am about to become extinct I suppose I wouldn't say no if an offer does come by.
The best idea I can give you is to be the first who offers the truce, I suppose you were referring to a a situation where you become stronger than the others and when they see you as a possible threat they just do the right thing by attacking you in fear of losing the game. If you are quick and see that you are about to become powerful, just offer a truce to your closest opponent who will be more than happy to avoid confrontation with the strongest player. Thus giving you more time and resources to deal with the other opponents and leaving your ally last.
Another suggestion I can throw from the top of head is to be as subtle as possible, avoid any confrontations throughout the game by holding just a small number of countries that have large numbers of armies: this way your opponents will be more reluctant to attack countries that have big numbers on them. You just sit there in low profile until your opponents finish of each other and head for the kill at the right moment.
Of course these are just my tactics and you can deem them useless if you may :)

alliances / truces suck!

Postby wick on Fri Mar 16, 2007 6:20 am

i will try to avoid them if i can by checking feedback of the players that join my games, and i will drop the game if someone that likes to hold hands or (make truces), watchia is a great player and has a good group of players that that are friends but dont hold hands in games. sometimes there is a outright stronger player in a game, and he gets attacked by the other players which may look like a gang up, if its not over done i consider it fair play. and have been on both sides of it. PS. if i do get stuck in a game with someone and they ask me for a truce i let them know its not how i play and all alliance makers will be attacked untill they are killed or iam defeated. at that point i dont care if i win just that they dont. then i place them on my ignore list...
