Clan leaders dictating who members can play with?

Postby MNDuke on Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:38 am

Is it right for a clan leader to dictate who the members of his/her clan can play with?

I recently have run into this problem. This has happened to a friend of mine and I. One night we were playing a speed game. Suddenly this person started getting pms from their clan leader telling this person they were going to be kicked out of the clan if they continued to play games with me. This created further controversy with other clan mates. The problem stems from the fact that me and this person's clan leader don't get along. I personally feel this is not right. It's going too far and invading people's personal boundaries.

Seriously, what business is it to them if I play games with this person. Who cares. This is just a game and this person should be able to play with whomever they want. There has to be some serious control issues at work here. It's not their choice to dictate. They don't own this person, or their right to play with whom ever they chooses. It has no effect on them nor their clan.

MNDuke I completely agree with you, as a clan leader you should be actively encouraging everyone to play with everyone as part of the cc spirit, no one should be able to tell who can play who.

Whoever she is has my full support, and there is always a clan here if she needs one.

I see no problem. Your friend has the choice of leaving the clan whenever he/she feels like the conditions to being in it aren't fun anymore.

But why should they have to leave the clan? What if they still enjoy playing with the others in the group, people they like and consider friends...do you think they should be forced out because of who they play with in public games? I don't know, I think that might be going a little too far. I mean if you were on the football team in high school, should be the coaches be allowed to kick you off of the team because you hung out with dudes from chess club?

There's a difference between the school football team and CC Clans; you can try to get in any clan you'd like, while in highschool, there's usually only one team :)
In highschool, when members of the football team don't like eachother, usually that's not a reason to put people out.

However, in CC, I think clans should have all the right to deny and accept anybody into their group, for whatever reason.

Of course, using that right like this is not a nice course of action. Can you tell us which clan leader would do this? Maybe there are even solid arguments for his actions.

I just think that the way you describe the case, there is nothing happening against the rules, and since you're being so vague about it, I don't even think I can blame the guy yet.

well maybe all the nice folk in the clan should revolt and overthrow this tyrant of a clan leader, whom decides who is clanmates can and can't play. then they could all live.....

If your clan leader tells you not to play with some CCers it is up to you stay in such a clan.

I'm always curious as to why certain clans still exist if leaders do this. If the clan leader was very upfront and said at the very beginning that you can only play team games with clan mates only, I don't think many clans would ever get started. Some clans are a dictatorship and if you don't like that, then leaving is an option. While this is not right IMO, as leader of the clan, it is an option as their disposal and is fair game. Most will call this a d-bag move.

I encourage my clan mates to pair up together, but learning a new map or gaining more experience outside of the clan is something that could benefit a clan.

This is spot on.If a clan leader told me who I should and shouldn't play.I would leave that clan pretty fast.

I actually have received complaints about a usergroup that won't let players join a clan because that usergroup is a clan elsewhere. The choice is always yours.

Come on people. Use your problem solving skills.

If you look at his games then it is either

1) THOTA
2) KoRT
3) Mythology

I doubt it was Mythology because the speed game with a myth partner was over a week ago and MTIceman posted in here asking about it. KoRT seems unlikely because of the KoRT posters in here plus ManBungalow plays a lot of speed games with a lot of different players. So the most likely suspect would be THOTA and Commander, which would make the most sense since he is a new addition to THOTA.

I in no way care or have an opinion on the matter. I am a fan of THOTA's as well as Blitz's so I apologize if I am wrong, just trying to use a little common sense to come up with an answer that you all seek.

I think its best in order for this thread to not become a bunch of flames, baits and be overall negative that that it is not discussed who the clan leader in question is.

Its up to the clan leader what the rules of the clan are and its up to the player if they want to be in the clan so i don't see how this is a problem...if the player really wanted to play with you they would leave the clan and if the leader has such a disdain for you that they don't want members of their clan to play with you then that is up to them as well. While i do think its a big much for a clan leader to ask you not to play with certain people and especially for the reasons involved in this case it is their clan and they can run it how they want.

Nevermind, I am wrong. I just saw Commander and assumed it was the one in THOTA. That leaves KoRT and Mythology from recent games, but I have a feeling it isn't about either of those so I have no clue.

qwert, this is a discussion, not just a question.

Should a clan leader threaten to kick out members for playing games with someone, or for any style of play or activity for that matter? No

Is it CC's place to tell a clan leader what they can or can not do with their membership roster (with the exception of a minimum population of the roster)? Again, No

Hey, Chuck, don't the brackets show up for you when you look at games? In other words: Commander9 [FOED]... not: Commander62890 [THOTA]

;)

I think it's best if we don't try to figure out who this leader is... let's just focus on the poll and the question thrown out by Duke.

I voted "No." It's okay if a leader lets his clan member know that he has beef with this player, and it's all right for him to strongly recommend that the clan member stay off of this player's team. However, I think it's going overboard to threaten expulsion from the clan.

Though a clan leader should have the right to kick his member out for doing such a thing, I believe it's bad form and should be looked down upon.
